I 50-42 here on Tuesday night.
The stage was set for the big
k shoot-out in Gainesville.
A capacity crowd of over
1,000 fans jammed the Gaines-
ville gym for the match. The
experienced Bearcats listed
four seniors on their start-
ing line-up. Two juniors and
three sophomores started for
Nocona under freshman coach
Bob Tavernia.
The game opened with both
teams cold. First scores were
a pair of free throws. Steve
Fenoglio made one for No-
cona. James Johnson hit one
for Pilot Point. Neither team
scored a field goal in the
first four minutes of play.
The score then read 1-1. But
then the eagers found the
range, and Pilot Point led 12-

period. The Indians opened o

the Pilot Point Bearcats 61- led 40-27 after 4 minutes
54. The win gave Pilot Point of the third period. The young
the district 12A basketball Indians fought back in the final
minutes, but trailed 37-48 at
the end of the third period.
With their backs to the wall
—or basket—the Indians came
out shooting in the final quar-
ter. Tommy Fenoglio hit
beautifully from the outside.
Danny Fitts netted two free
throws. Mike Fenoglio stole
the ball and raced the length
of the court to score. They
outscored the Bearcats 17-13,
but it was too little, too late.
Pilot Point went into a stall
to slow the game, control the
ball, and win.
The buzzer sounded. The
tired, disappointed Indians
went to the dressing room.
The season was over for them.

will play a local team of all stars Friday evening in the
