Special Theatrical Train to Houston
. via 6., H. & H. R. R.
London, Feb. 12.--King George of G:eece
started homeward at 11 o’clock this morn-
ing. King Edward, the duke of Cornwall
and York, Prince Charles of Denmark
and members of the Greek legation in
London accompanied him to Victoria sta-
tion, where a guard of honor was in at-
tendance. The route from Buckingham
palace to the station was lined with
cheering crowds. After the king of Greece
had bidden farewell to the others he and
King Edward entered a saloon carriage
and embraced each other, kissing each
other on both cheeks. The train started
in the midst of a. rendering of the Greek
anthem and hearty cheering.
Herreschoff Fellows Plans Laid Down in
Columbia.
Br.stO'l, Ri. I., Feb. 12.—Several more
bronze pla.tes have been set to the frames
of the cup defender on the third strakei
from the garbcard. The plan of p’ating
is practically the same as that which was
followed when the Columbia was built.
There are seven strakes of plating to ba
rivetted from the keel to the waterways.
Columbus, O., Feb. 12.—Secret orders
have gone forth to two regiments, of the
Ohio national guard to* hold themselves
in readiness for service in connection with
the stopping of the prize, fight at Cincin-
nati Friday night. State officials pro--
fessed ignorance- -when a.sked about the
matter today, but know orders have been
issued to company commanders of the
4th and 6th regiments;. Col. Joseph Potter
of Columbus, commanding the 4th regi-
ment, and Col. Sitanbury of the 6th have
Issued ordersi almost identical in charac-
ter. Gov. Nash has intimated that if it
became necessary he would use troops and
it is possible the orders which, have gone
forth may have been taken by regimental
commanders on their own responsibility
in anticipation, of a call being made, but
it is probable they have other reasons for
the step taken.

King Edward Must Declare Disbelief
Roman Doctrines.
New York, N. Y., Feb. 12.-A dispatch
to the Tribune from London says:
One of the most interesting events in
connection with the opening of parliament
on Thursday will be the formal declara-
tion by the king of his disbelief in the
characteristic doctrines of the Roman
Catholic faith. Any person professing the
Popish religion is incapable of inheriting
or possessing the crown, and the sovereign
is bound to make the required declara-
tion either on the throne or in the house
of lords in the presence of both houses at
the meeting of the first parliament after
the accession, or at the coronation, which-
ever shall happen first. This curious sur-
vival of a. less tolerant age acquires par-
ticular significance on the present occa-
sion, owing to the effect that the earl
marshal, who will direct the ceremonies
at Winchester, is himself one of the most
devout Roman Catholics in England.
Pittsburg, Pa., Feb. 12.—An afternoon

former is interested in Frick with J. Pier-
pont Morgan. Morgan is anxious to place
Frick at the head of the new combination
and Carnegie is for President 'Schwab.

House Agrees to Senate Bill Creating a
Commission.
W ashington, D. C., Feb. 12.—Conferees
of the senate and house today reached an
agreement upon the- bill providing means
of settling claims of.citizens of the United
States and Spain as provided for by the
Paris treaty of peace. The house com
ferees receded from their amendment re-
quiring the court of claims to pass upon
such claims and ...accepted the senate pro-
vision for a commission. The new mem-
bership committee, however, is increased
from three to five. A provision was in-
serted making decisions of the committee
final, but giving the authority to grgnt a
rehearing under certain circumstances,
and also to ask the opinion of the Unit-
ed States supreme court on points of law.
Commissioners are to be appointed by the
president and confirmed by the senate,
and the bill requires that they be learned
in the law.. The headquarters of the com-
mission will be in Washington, but it is
empowered to send a commissioner abroad
to take testimony.

Possible ‘Trouble May Have' Occurred With
the French.
Paris, Feb. 12.—The foreign office has
not yet received an official report of the
Von Waldersee-Bailloud incident at Pe-
kin, but it admits there may be slight
friction between the two commanders.
As to the reported intervention of the
French to occupy Shan Si, the foreign of-
fice officials say there is no foundation
for the report, a.s French'-troops have
orders not to penetrate into Shan Si, as
the government thinks such a step would
be quite impolitic and tantamount to in-
vading an entirely new country;

Lattimer Miners Will Return
Minus Their Demands.
Hazleton, Pa., Feb. 12.—The Lattimer
strikers, who went out three weeks ago
because of the alleged unwarranted dis-
charge of two drill runners, have decided
to return to work, and operations will be
resumed at the colliery. The drill run-
ners will not be reinstated as at first de-
manded by the mine workers, but will be
supported by the latter until they secure
other work.- The strikers, it is estimated,
lost about $27,660 in wages during their
idleness.

COLONISTS F0|l '^ALIFORNIA.
The extremely Colonists' rate of
$26.45 to all California- points went into
effect today. The pate Is participateli in
by all the roads in Texas and tickets were
put on sale simultaneously in all the dif-
ferent railroad ticket offices.
The pioneer mover in slashing the rates
to secure this class of business was the
Northern Pacific road, wlfich made an an-
nouncement to that effect over a month
The remainder of the
lines followed suit.
The low rate is'the result of the other
roads refusing to be outdone in bidding
for the patronage of prospective home-
seekers. The. raite that went in force to-
day will go into effect on each recurring
Tuesday in the months of February,
March and April.
