believed to have been caused more by
blowing rain than by high water.,
WATER DID GET high enough to
make some streets virtually impass-
able. In fact, there were more flooded
streets and intersections than the city
had barricades. The highway depart-
ment had much the same problem,; but
immediate area was FM 731 toward
Egan.
The city closed the S. Dobson low
water crossing and the low water
OFFICIALLY, THE CITY recorded
4.15 inches of rain Thursday, but the
actual amount may have been five .
inches or even more since a rain gauge
has questionable accuracy when a hard
rain is falling during a high wind storm.
Still, that makes 5.24 inches that
have already fallen during May-about
a quarter inch above the average
rainfall for the entire month. For the
year, Burleson has now received 22.12
inches of precipitation, only a couple of
inches less than the entire 1978 rainfall. ■
crossing on Tarrant St. was also closed.
Little Booger Creek was at the bridge
level on both Johnson Ave. and
Newton Streets, but both streets
remained open.
Renfro, Suzanne and Linda Streets
all contained large volumes of water
with Renfro and Suzanne all but
the only road they J^osed in this im^Wile. Since Thursday was trash
day in that section of town, plastic
garbage bags floated down Renfro St.
in large numbers toward Wilshire
Blvd.

“We’ve done a lot of little things to save
energy, but our bills have kept going up.
“So we decided to do a big thing. We put in a
Carrier Year-round One heat pump air condi-
tioner. v..;, ) \.
“It cuts our heating bills in the winter, and it (
gives us efficient cooling in the summer. We ;
think a Carrier heat pump air conditioner is
the only way to go.
