(f) Active duty service in the
Naval Reserve counts toward long-
evity increases in pay, the same as
regular Navy service.
(g) Enlistments in the Naval
Reserve will not bar reenlistments
in the regulai Navy within three
months from date of discharge
therefrom.
(h) If and when reenlistments
in the regular Navy of broken ser-
vice men should be resumed, will
be in a preferred status for such
i eenlistment.
(i) If and when reenlistment
allowance should be restored, will
be entitled to such allowance upon
reenlistment in the Navy (if autho-
rized) under continuous service
conditions in the Navy and the
Naval Reserve.
(j) If reenlistment in the reg-
ular Navy, active service in the
Naval Reserve will count towards
transfer to the Fleet Reserve or
Retired List, with pay.
NOTE: No reeniistments of
Naval Reservists into the regular
Navy are at present authorized
after three months from date of
discharge from the regular Navy.
B. — OBLIGATIONS
(a) In the event of war or a
national ememgency ceases to exist,
ed to serve actively with the Navy
throughout the war or until the
national emergency ceaces to exist.
(b) Must keep the Comman-
dant of th Naval District in which
residence is maintained, informed
of address.
Summarizing the above, enlist-
ment in Class V-4 of the reserve
will insure continuous service status
in the Reserve, affords ready entry
into other classes of the Reserve
and incur the minimum obligation
which is willingness to serve in the
Navy in time of war or national
emergency.

Since Class F-2 of the Fleet Nav-
al Reserve has been abolished, the
Bureau desires to obtain as many
enlistments as possible in Class V-
4 of the Naval Reserve.
To this end it is desired that com-
manding officers insure that each
man eligible who has indicated his
intention not to reenlist in the
Navy upon discharge, be informed
of his privilege of reelistment in
Class V-4 of the Naval Reserve,
and of the benefits and obligations
attached thereto, as noted below in
paragraphs 5 and 6. To be eligible,
a man must be a citizen of the
United States, honorably discharg-
ed from the regular Navy, recom-
mended for reelistment, and must
enlist in the Naval Reserve within
three months from date of dis-
echarge from the regular Navy.
Information concerning Class
V-4 of the Naval Reserve:
A. — BENEFITS
(a) Not subject to draft in the
event of war, but is assured of ser-
vice in present rating or higher, in
the Navy.
(b) Not required to preform
any service during peace times.
(c) May be permitted to pre-
form short periods of service if de-
sired, with pay, if funds are
available, otherwise without pay.
(d) If so desired may be trans-
ferred to fill a vacancy in that class
of the Naval Reserve authorized to
receive pay for the performance of
weekly armory drills and two week’s
annual training duty.
(e)
