I was called to take a picture of an ac-
cident Tuesday morning. It seems as if the
driver of a truck became sleepy and passed
Mit, letting the truck take to the ditch. Now,
£oing to sleep driving a vehicle is dangerous
business, but this fellow made it doubly so,
he was driving a nitro-glycerine truck.
The snow that fell last week was wel-
comed by the kids and grownups alike. It is
just about once a year that Electra gets a
decent snow. People that parked their cars
on the north side of Cleveland Avenue had
trouble backing out due to the ice and the
slight incline. After helping one such car out
Ish Brown proceeded to pelt its occupant
with sr^wballs — Mrs. Edgar Darter.
If you should suffer a large fire loss oh either
your house or its contents, you might also suf-
fer a serious financial loss — unless you have
brought your insurance coverage up to meet in-
creased replacement costs.
While checking through the March' 1941
issues of the Star I happened to notice sev-
eral advertisements. I noted one grocery ad
and then compared it with the prices of com-
modities selling today. Lettuce, 3 cents, price
now 15 to 17 cents. No. 2 corn, 2 for 15 cents,
now 15 cents per can. Round steak 23 cents
pound, now 42 cents pound. And who said
the price of food hadn’t gone up! A further
study of prices reveals that in 1941 one could
buy a 1937 Olds couple with heater and
radio for $385. A 1939 Plymouth four door
sold, for $565. Do you think you can buy a
car for that price now?

If your home and its contents are not pro-

’" Three of our local high school boys caus-
ed a near riot in Wichita Falls last week when
their car caught on fire. Wayne Hale said
that he, Artie Martin and Bruce Amonett
were in the down-town section when the mis-
hap occured. Wayne dashed over to one of
those little red boxes marked “fire”, broke
the window and pulled everything in sight.
As a result the boys had six fire engines, a
laddei’ truck, and two ambulances at their
disposal. The fire? They had it out by the
time the fire fighers arrived.

Wichita Falls High School certainly
ripped their pants over the football coach sit-
uation this year. It seems to me like they
wanted keep Thurmon Jones as head coach,
but did not want to hurt the feelings of Ted
Jeffries who had been seiwing in the Navy.
So they Coyote “brains” created a special
position as director of athletics for Jeffries
—sorta kicked him upstairs with a high
sounding title. He didn’t like that and neither
did Jones. So while the schoolmasters were
stewing, Jones accepted a position as head
coach at Hardin Junior College and Jeffries
went to Beaumont. You can’t have your cake
and eat it, so the old saying goes.
