Pitchfork Fishing Tool
The types differ in construction to perform different operations. The regular pitchfork is used to
pick out under-reamer lugs not leaning against the side of the hole broken lugs sledges chunks off
of drill bits stones or any similar obstructions and by reason of the separately mounted spears any one
or more of which can be set squarely on an object and still by having'its spring compressed will allow
the other spikes to descend and catch the lug or chunk.
The Inside Out pitch fork is used where n underreamer lug is leaning or has been driven against
the side of the hole by horn socket or other similar fishing apparatus and when lowered into the hole
the skirt just above the barbs will set on top of the 1 ug at the correct height for the barbs to latch into
the hole.
For fishing under-reamer lugs or similar things these tools are intended to be used in pairs for if a
thing is in a wrong position Jo be caught by one of the tools the other tool will pick it up. Don't forget
this.
'We have other types of these tools for specific things for instance one that will pick a bailer out of
a hole when the sand line is broken say 20 or 30 feet above the bail a place where it is almost impossi-
ble to use a latch jack or center spear successfully.
liit. Only a set of jars ami rope socket are used
N'cM'r use :i str.
Lulu." stroke Jars should be used. The tools only
need enough weight to latch down over the object
j on don't have to Jam Devil's 11 till Forks to get
(hem to work.
2nd. Devil's Pitchforks are not delicate and you
can lower and raise them at ordinary speeds slack
up and rfst lightly on the bottom and get your pick-
up" lolul.s then raise tols 0 feet off bottom (never
mure tlutti 0 feet) and get It in at fair speed this
will riiible the spears to catch hold. If the lug or
other ohjcit lias Income Imbedded or It Is u lug that
has been driven Into the bank you will most likely
get u kind of third pickup or twist of the cable.
. This Is a sure sign that you have locked the lug and
the tool should be brought out Immediately. Ordi-
'' uarlly It Is advisable to raise the tool to the 0 foot
height and let It back about three times and then
'ei'iue out with it us no extra indications can be had
unless the lug is Imbedded.
Try he regular spring pitch fork first and run It
half a dozen times before changing -to the other tool.
If the lugs or other objects are uot covered with rav-
ings you'll get them.
3 Cavings.
If you don't catch the lug or other object It will
be Ik-cause the sediment has settled out of the slush
'and burled the lug or liecnusu the hole has enunl
some lu which case our exiierleiice shows that the
' first thing to do Is to go Into the boh- with a .'1 or 4
prong grab wt to the full she of thi- racing. This
will cause the prongs to pass dowu through (he cus
lugs uud work the lug out ou top of '.ti- e-.islng. Iu
case there Is a lot of cuvlugs lu the boh chum them
up with the a prong grab aud then Um- a sand pump
to clean the hole until you get dowu Jo the lugs.
The use of a sand puiup Insteud of a bailer Is !-
cause of coitjse. tluit the balle drurt slnUs the luss
instead of lea lug thwii on top. Alwa spread the
anil see tint tin ends
won't be drhcti down
grali to the full size of the hole
are are pitnUsl -tt tliat the lily
the hole.
t. If your ciisiwr is swinging lu the holt; wrap the
cabl above the ioieasocket to keep it from catching
on the stuie. It is a r.tre case that a lug will catch
on the casing shoe us it tends to swing under the
center of the tool hut If you should have trouble en-
tering the piix' Just take it ea-y don't jam things
around often by pultitig a heavy twist In the ca-
ble anl gl''!ug i" time to reach the bottom you can
turn the tool so nit the lug Is on the -luck side uud
It will come right through.
DOST
When you lo-e underreamer lugs chunks off of
bits or similar things don't do a blamed thing until
you get the Devil's l'Itchfork.
DON'T SET CASINO You'll Just shave nil the
humps off tile wall down onto your fishing 'job.
DON'T LOSE ANY TIME remember that the--
things should be fished quickly. And Say. Mr. Di lit-
