What makes for a success-
ful dub with successful pro-
jects?
There are a lot of factors
involved, but never should
the importance of plain, sim-
ple, old-fashioned enthusiasm
be underrated. Experienced
Lions hold the quality of en-
thusiasm in awe. They know
that without this inspiration-
al spark, the engine of any
club is bound to falter.
But how can enthusiasm be
generated when it is absent
or maintained once it’s in ex-
istence?.
Answering that question is
a lot simpler than the act of
putting the solution into
practice. For the secret key
to enthusiasm in any club is
the attitudes of Lion leaders.
Does a newly installed club
’ president face the tasks and
problems of the coming year
with apathy and resignation?
Then his committee chairmen
will probably view their ap-
pointed projects in much the
same way, as dreary jobs to
be done and forgotten as soon
as possible. Certainly, these
unwholesome attitudes are
going to be reflected among
the membership.
A Lion leader, be he club
president or committee
chairman, must do more than
merely delegate duties. He
must inspire. He must moti-
vate. He must set an exam-
ple.
This recommendation for
enthusiasm does not mean
that the Lion leader must ig-
nore bad conditions, and
somehow believe that only the
optimistic side exists. It does
not mean that he must be a
perennial wearer of rose-col-
ored glsses. But it does mean
that he must sec both the
good and bad, in proper pro-
portion. He must also remem-
ber that a negative attitude
never built a thing or contri-
buted a white to progress. A
positive approach to dub
problems can work wonders.
