MOTHER
n Kdltorlal.
f
Today has been very appropriately set aside as one day in the
vear on which to honor our mothers.
One of the hopes for a better day and another of the things
which indicate that the Motld is groMing better is the tendency
to emphasize the finer things of life by special ceremonies and
with suitable programs so many days out of each year.
The word MOTHER. just to mention it stirs up the best
that is in a man. To be made to think of her and her noble
training causes any man it matters not what his temptations
or mistake mav be think a little more seriously :bout life
and its problems and have an inclination to turn on the right
side.
To honor our parents is a rwul given injunction one with a
pronus'-' that long life shall be given to him who honors his
father and his mother. Anil
Fathers who also hae a great
niifl daughters.
Let everv man. woman and
mother todav. If she is limg.
she has ever received and let that letter express in the most
fitting word!? a heart full of love which she deserves and let
the teachings which she gave her child be meditated upon to-
day and upon those teachings let new resolutions for better liv-
ing he formed. If she is with you let your thanks and ador-
ation be all that is possible to make them she may not be
with you long.
If your mother has passed on to eternity wear a white flow-
or in memory of her today and let your meditation recall some
jj the holy and love-laden prayers she offered and some of the
ambitions she had for her son or daughter.

SENATOR M'KELLAR CHARGES
COMBINE OF THE REFINERS TO
CONTROL MAKING OF PRICES
IJY UNITED PRESS
WASHINGTON May l.'l. The Senate today ordered an in-
vestigation into the prices of gasoline. Senator IWcKeller of
Tennessee introduced the resolution and it Mas adopted with-
out a' roll call.
He charged that the increase Vangtng from four to six
cents :i gallon indicated a conspiracy among refinery men to
gouge the public.
Protests on the new prices are pouring in on members of
Congress today.
The fight began early in the day M'lien the resolution Mas
introduced. Senator Smoot objected to the resolution's con-
sideration. '
Mi-Keller declared that the evidence pointed to the exist-
ence of a conspiracy among oil refiners at this time to raise
gasoline prices. "The price of crude oil is at its loMest.
I he slocks of crude oil are at the lowest in history yet the
price of gasoline is on the increase. What other explana-
tion can he made?" asked MeKellar.
''No one can tell where these raises in price of gasoline can-
end is something is not donc".decIared MeKellar.
Gasoline reserves Mill reach the stupendous figures or one
billion gallons bv the end of this month the liureau of Mines
forecast today. This is more than 2."l)()J() gallons more than
was in reserve a year ago. In most places gasoline is sell-
ing a 2- cents or from five to six cents above the Iom' of the
past m inter. Next Monday an increase of two cents per
gallon goes into effect in a considerable portion of Eastern
territory. Several new raises will become effective in the
next few days it is predicted
