MISS EDNA is just now mas-
to tering the Machine Age and the
hapepn to a dog. Phil Pierce took beginning of the Industrial Rev-
him to heart as a gift about nine olution. For there were no ma-
years ago, and Buddy then had chines to grade the hundreds of
a mature, statesman-like look thousands of school papers and
about him. 1
He performed well under the
government of the Canadian Re-
public, Member of the English
Commonwealth of Nations, Re-
public of New Foundland, ingratir
ated to a U. S. Navy man and a
Texas - New Foundland family.
Buddy’s next assignment was to
follow his family to warmer
olimes—in Bermuda where he
watched over the small English
dependency, accepted another
Pierce brother, Ricky Joe, and
watched the older boys grow up.
Then a plane flight to the U.
S. A. and Celeste in particular,
the home of the blond Texan.
Buddy liked the easy freedom of
small town living minus the ex-
acting diplomacy of peaceful ca-
nine relations in foreign lands.
He watched the overloaded sta-
tion wagon, parents, four boys
and sea chests of belongings, leave
for Cumberland, Maryland. Bud-
dy seemed to instinctively know
that “Grandmaw’s” home was1
best for him in his aging years

When the family bundled up
and flew to Australia last Sep-
tember to join the father who
was engineering a naval installa-
: tion there, Buddy was the least
1 affected by their going. He was
