DISPLAY ADVERTISING IN NEWSPAPERS REACHES MORE THAN THREE TIMES AS
MANY ADULT CONSUMERS AS TELEVISION COMMERCIALS, 4 SURVEY BY A DALLAS
FIRM HAS REVEALED. THE FINDINGS OF A TWO-YEAR SURVEY BY BELDEN ASSOCI-
ATES WERE ANNOUNCED AT A MEETING OF THE DALLAS ADVERTISING LEAGUE IN DAL-
LAS. THE SURVEY, CONDUCTED IN 46 TEXAS AND LOUISIANA MARKETS, SHOWED THAT
54 PER CENT OF ALL ADULTS ARE EXPOSED TO NEWSPAPER DISPLAY ADVERTISING, COM-
PARED WITH ONLY 17 PER CENT WHO SEE TELEVISION COMMERCIALS. JOE BELDEN, PRES-
IDENT OF THE FIRM, SAID IN THE REPORT THAT THE SURVEY WAS UNIQUE BECAUSE "WE
INTERVIEWED THE SAME PEOPLE TWICE - A PERSONAL INTERVIEW FOR DETAILED IN-
FORMATION ON NEWSPAPER READING AND TELEVISION VIEWING HABITS, FOLLOWED
BY A TELEPHONE INTERVIEW TO DISCOVER THE EXPOSURE TO TELEVISION STATION
BREAKS.” HE SAID, "SINCE THE SAME PEOPLE ARE USED FOR BOTH MEASUREMENTS THERE
IS NO QUESTION ABOUT THE COMPARABILITY OF THE SAMPLES ... OUR FINDINGS HAVE
SIGNIFICANCE OF NATIONAL IMPORTANCE TO ADVERTISERS.”
