HILMAR BRADEN IS
LAID TO REST
Hilmar Braden who had been
in ill health since last Novem-
ber, died April 7 in a Naval
hospital in San Diego, Califor-
nia. Military services were
held April U, with burial in
Roaedan’s veterans’ cemetery.
| Mr. Braden would have been
M years of age had be lived
until April 15. He was born in
Barclay, son of Frank Sr. and
Bertha Iselt Braden. He was a
veteran of World War 1.
Besides his widow, be is sur-
vived by a son, Howard of Se-
attle, Wash., a stepson, Char-
les Young, La Porte, and two
grandchildren also a stepmoth-
er, Mrs Ana Braden, three
brothers, Hugo. Henry and An-
ton, a sister, Ida Keller Meier,
four half-brothers. Ben, Ed-
ward, August and Frank Jr.,
and a balf-sfoier, Anna Met-
hane.
An audit of the county treas-
urer’s books and canvassing of
the school trustee election bal-
lots was conducted by the Aus-
tin County Commissioners’
Court Friday.
The o mmissioners found no
discrepancy in the treasurer’s
report and reported that the
books were in excellent condi-
tion with all accounts balanced.
This audit is done quarterly as
required by law.

J. Lee Dittert. Jr., has auth-
orired the announcement of his
candidacy for the office of
County Judge of Austin County,
Texas, in the forthcoming pri-
’ mary in May.
Mr. Dittert has practiced law
continuously in Austin County
since being admitted to the Bar
on May 7, 1957. A member of
the Austin County Bar Associa-
tion and State Bar of Texas, he
is thirty-four years old and has
resided in Austin County all
his life.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts
Degree from the University of
• Texas with a major in Govern-
| ment, and an LL.B, from the
11 University of Texas School of
Law, and is member of the
Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity.
Mr. DiUert is presently a
Lieutenant Commander in the
Naval Reserve on inactive stat-
us. He received his commission
through the Naval ROTC pro-
gram in co llege. He served two
years active duty during the
Korean War on the USS Gher-
ardi .a high speed minesweep-
er. He has twice been Com-
manding Officer of the Naval
Reserve Unit in Bellville and
i for seven years served as Of-
ficer in Charge of the Facility.

Mr. Otto A. Freier of Shiner,
Texas passed away at a rest
home in Shiner niursday af-
ternoon at 1:10 following a
short illness.
He was an Austin County na-
tive, bora at New Ulm Septem-
ber 23, 1888, He was reared in
New Ulm-Welcome area and at-
tended school at Sandy Creek
Public School at New Ulm.
