over the alleged killing of McDon -
ald's dog. He claimed, it is said,
that Sullivan had killed it. Sulli
van says that McDonald came t >
his home and called him out to give
him a drink of whiskey, that he
would not drink the whiskey, but
poured it out On the ground. Mc-
Donald charged him with killing his
dog and after some words Sullivan
says threw a stool at him. Sulli-
van says he then went into the
house and got a shot gun and upon
McDonald’s trying to get in the door
he shot him.
immediately after the shooting
Sullivan phoned the officers to conn
-aftrf’him. Marshal Goode went at
once to the scene. When he ar
rived Sullivan was sitting on the
jtofch and McDonald was lying o-a
the ground a few steps away from
the bouse.
After arresting Sullivan and tak
ing the gun the marshal walked ov-
er to where McDonald was lying and
finding that he was not dead, he
with the aid of Ben Sullivan an!
ullivan himself placed McDonald
in a carriage and carried him to
his home. ‘
Physicians were called and after
m> examination it was decided to be
necessary to amputate the left arm
where the greater part of the charge
had taken effect. The arm was am
putated near the shoulder. Some
of the bones of the right arm were
broken also and a few shot wer"
found in the body.
Sullivan was carried to the jail,
and a charge of- assault to murder
placed against him. *At an earl;
hour Sunday morning he was re -

At last reports McDonald was
resting easily and unless complies
