the famous Bishop Pierce of Geor-
gia, who was an uncle of the for-
mer Rev. Pierce of this city. At the
age of 22 he was united in marriage
ter Miss Carrie King of Whitfield,
Ga.. and in 1890 removed from Gor-
' don county, Ga., to Sherman, Tex.,
where he resided until 1901 when
he came to Denton with his family.
He has since lived in this city, as-
sisting in various church meetings
over the state and conducting ser-
vices wherever needed. He waR elect-
ed mayor of Denton in 1906 and
served two years in tha* capacity.
Rev. Simmons fifsurvived by four
■children and tw6 grandchildren—
two sons, John Simmons of Dallas
and Arthur Simmons of TeYrell, and
two daughters, Misses Libbie and
Lula Simmons of this city. All of
his children were presen* at the time
of his death, Athur Simmons ar-
riving just before the end came.
Funeral services will be held at
th< Methodist church Tuesday at
Z11 o'clock. Rev. T. J. Beckham
•officiating, assisted by Rev. W. T.
Whiteside, the local pastor. After
the services the remain, will ba re-
moved o Pilot Point for interment
beside 'his wife who died on Feb.
15. 1908.
