NOW is the time to plan your Spring Building and
to make needed repairs. A great many repairs have
been neglected for a long, long time, and there are
days coming when they must be taken care of before
it is too late.
We shall be glad to estimate the material cost on
your job and to suggest or recommend just what
should be done.

The J. H. Cone Burial Association offers the people
of thia section the best and the cheapest protection
that can be written, and is a home institution owned
by the members.
This Association has already helped a number
of families that have had misfortune. The many
* 4vho <ire members now are well pleased and are not
allowing their certificates to lapse. Many others are
joining regularly.
It will be more than worth the time for you to
investigate this association plan, and we are sure
that after you have made investigation, you will be-
come a member also.

Old 1934 is dead as Heck and drug
out in the alley to rot. But for
crimlnently sakes don’t keep pulling
that same worn out stunt “resolv-
ing” what you’ll do or not do; be-
cause you are going to keep it up
as usual doing just what you want
to, if you can.
Yes, we are all “led by the spirit”
of Christ, the devil or that kind
distilled from old com. Us church
members are going right ahead
short-potting the contribution plate,
the preaefiers (and we can’t do
without them) are going to keep
raw-hiding their members to be
more liberal, the doctors are going
to expect his money whether you
die or live, the undertaker will still
be laughing up his sleeves when he
hears of our last kick at the bucket,
the lawyer will go right on telling
the truth, the politician, the poor
vzom out soul who always has his
country at heart, will go on laboring
for “the people” and IGNORE him-
self, the banker will keep up the
same rig-ger-ma-role “we are not
lending any more money,” to the
fellow who wants to borrow five dol-
lars till next Saturday, the mer-
chants keep right on “selling for
less than cost” and “losing money
every day,” those editors (now here
is where I must slack up a little,
bear soft like on the pedal, if I want
this article printed) will be AS
USUAL—and .you surely have found
them out by now, but folks, there
ain’t a dam thing I could say to
come in a thousand miles of what
this next congress will do. I’ve got
more sense thar to even prophesy.
But incldently, I wish our congress-
man from this district would prod
up the proper authorities and get
going on erecting that post office
building at Nocona. He naturally
will want to be congressman again,
and when it is widely known that
he was instrumental in RUSHING
UP on this job, the voters will feel
like sending him back again—won’t
we boys? We detoumed from our
subject a little, but I thought it
WELL to bring this up while I
thought of it.
No, fellers. I’ll tell you; we might
as well quit imposing on the public
in stringing out on all that bull
about what we are going to do, but
shut up and do it. The best way
that I ever saw to get a debt settled
•; to PAY IT. If you sympathize
-ith a poor boob, give him assist-
ance. If you haven’t any credit in
town, BUILD UP ONE, if you
KNOW you have been acting the
fool, cancel all future engagements,
ycu go home and find your wife
mad as a hornet, you ought to know
what’s the matter—BEHAVE your-
self. There will be no use men-
tioning gossiping at a “quilting”
because “quilting” would be a thing
of the past if that was interferred
with.
To sum it all up, let’s quit lying
about what we even intended to do,
but FIRST pull down that Bible (if
we have any) and read what our
real duty to God and man is, and
make our BIGGEST effort to carry
it out.
The GREAT trouble with ALL of
us is. we are like little children when
they have PLENTY of candy for all,
each one is afraid the OTHER will
get more than their share. Ain’t I
right? Good luck; and try to stay
out of jail.

The Thursday club met Dec. 13th,
with Mrs. J. D. Woods as hostess.
On entering the house the decora-
tions gave a reminder that Christ-
mas was near and the most inter-
esting to all were the beautiful pine
cones, a gift to Mrs. Woods from
Virginia. These cones were a long
slim variety measuring from six to
eight inches in length.
Mrs. N. M. Flynt was director for
the program and had as her sub-
ject “Culmination of the Short
Story Form in America.” She told
this in a very interesting manner
and introduced Mrs. R. R. Alexander
whose subject was "Poe’s Rules for
the Short,Story.” Mrs. Alexander
gave this in a delightfully enter-
taining way. Mrs. Shropshire, next
on the program has as her subject,
“Poe, the Poet, an Aid to Poe, the
Short Story Writer.” Mrs. Guy

has fresh tomatoes for the Christ-
mas holidays because be packed
green tomatoes in dry sand and
allowed them to ripen, according
to Ross B. Jenkins, farm demon-
stration agent. Due to the late
rains in the fall, Callahan county
farmers had a fine crop of green
tomatoes, and many inquired as to
how they might preserve them for
Louls^resh use. Under the direction of
schoourthe farm demonstration agent, Mr.
Jones packed them in dry sand us-

done before the first frost, and about
30 days later lie exhibited tome
evenly ripened fruit. He says that
he can easily hold the tomatoes for
60 days.
