In asking the men and wpmen of this county
for their suffrage for the office of Sheriff I wish to state
that my platform is a vigorous enforcement of all JaWs. %
I understand and believe that the Sheriff’s office is the
most important county office within the gift of the peo-
ple, largely in the Sheriff’s hands is the question of the
protection of life and safety of property and the effic-
iency with which the Sheriff enforces the law very
largely determines the morals of the people of the
county. '
/ I have never known but one rule and guide
where those questions involved are concerned, and that
is, so long as the law is on the statute books it is there
to be enforced. If it is not a good law it should pot
have been enacted; the failure to enforce one law
breeds disrespect of other laws and neither life nob-
property is safe in any community when that commu-
nity does not insist upon a rigid enforcement of all
laws. If elected your Sheriff I will have no other or
higher ambition than to do my whole duty and enforce
- EVERY LAW ON THE STATUTE BOOKS.

THAT CHARGE OF INGRATITUHE
(Houston Post)
In his D^las speech, Charley McDon-
ald. the premier truth killer of Hie Fer-
guson -campaign said,:
Ton men .and women learned long
ago that a man who will go back
op his running .mate und/tfflstimr

any principle. He (Ho^by) double

Ferguson and his willing benchmen
all over the State, meaning of course
to convey the impression that Fergu-
son was responsible for Hobby’s elec-
tion as lieutenant governor in LUI.
Nothing could be further from the
truth than this contention and Fergu-
son and the men close to him know ft.
It was sprung solely and alone in
__________: •
charge Hobby with Hie offenseTof in-
gratitude. <■
Ferguson had absolutely nothing ,to
do wittu Hobby's candidacy far li“ute-
nant govern©!*, except to oppose it.
Hobby, was. put into the ra<" by !a
large’number of young democrats, in-
cluding many newspaper men and
these young democrats made the cam-
paign which elected him.
Ferguson and his campaign, manager
and others who were intimately con-
nected with the Ferguson sld1 in the
fight, were very^hostile to Hobby.
Tiiev desired Mrr B. Y. Cummins of
Hillsboro as Ferguson's runnintr male.
This was because Governor Hi.hby.
personally and in bis newspaper was
supporting ColoneJ Ball.
Hobby was on a visit to Dallats.
where he was surrounded by his
friends and being urged to in.ty'unce
his candidacy^ Then tt was that ttte
Ferguson opposition ina-je Itsrtif
known. \
Mr. R. L. Winfrey^who was Fergu-
son's manager af DaUas, received a .vig|-
orotis protest over the phone from Mi.
John G. McKay. Ferguson's Slat*- Man-,
ager.
Mr. Bawlings Colquitt, a trim I m 1
Hobby s. hut at that time supporting '
Ferguson. rec#4ved messages from Mr. 1
McKay and from a prominent orewi-, 1
of Houston, saying Hubby's car ” '—1
would not do at all. ' 1
—These facts—and they can e isily be for babies, children
verified by conversation vvilli eilhe*
Mr. Winfrey or Mr. Colquitt—just’
how much Ferguson had to do with
making Hobby Jieotenant governor. ’ > f . .
The truth is. Hobby was .ideeted by
anil thru a vigorous campaign made by
the young democrats of North and Cen-
tral Texas, aided and abetted by ’its
newspapeY friends throughout the state
and was not and is not today, under
dhe slightest obligation to Fergusop.
