Electra Nursing Center offi-
cials said this week they are
proud to present the first video
production to ease the public’s
fears and clear the air about
long term care noting that for
the four million people each year
who must face the decision to
place a loved one,into a nurs-
ing home, guilt, frustration and
confusion are constant compan-
ions.
Going behind the scenes,
the video presentation “How
to Choose a Nursing Home”
provides families with specific
criteria to assist in selecting the
appropriate serves for Mother.
The “nuts and bolts” ap-
proach assists the consumer to
evaluate the quality of a nurs-
ing center during a brief five
minute tour. Even for those vis-
iting a facility for the first time,
the video teaches how to eval-
uate nursing, therapy, dietary,
activities and housekeeping.
Two nationally prominent geron Anderson, Amy Byrd, Jennifer
tologists, a long term care ------
specialist, and a beneficiary
specialist from Medicare are
joined by dozens of medical pro-
fessionals, patients, and fami-
lies within the 26 minute pre-
sentation.
“By creating a large aggre-
gation of knowledgeable con-
sumers,” suggests Betty Guyette,
administrator, “the care within
nursing homes across the state
will improve as a result of fam-
ily members’ new found, mea-
surable expectations.”
The video tape is available
for loan through most area hos-
pitals or call Electra Nursing
Center, 495-284, to borrow a
copy free of charge.

Texas Water Development
Board has initiated a detailed
study of the ground- water
resources of the North Central
Plains of Texas including this
area which focuses on the North
Texas Alluviums and Paleozoic
Formations
The study area includes all or

The study is in response to the
1985 passage of H.B. 2 by the
69th Txas Legislature which
called for the identification of
critical ground-water areas in
the State. A critical ground-
water area is one that is
either currently experiencing
critical ground-water problems
or that is expected to experience
critical problems within the
next 20 years.
Major topics to be addressed
in the study include the occur-
rence and availability of ground
water, identification of present
and potential water resource
problems, and estimation of fu-
ture demands that will be placed
on those resources. Of special
interest will be the determina-
tion of the occurrence of water-
quality deterioration, its extent
and the natural or man- induced
cause of the change.
At the conclusion of the
study, a report containing the
Board’s findings will be submit-
ted to the Texas Water Commis-
sion. The report will be used by
the Commission in its considera-
tion of the creation of an under-
ground water conservation dis-
trict for the area. Such districts
provide locally-controlled man-
agement of the ground-water
resources of the area.
Information about this study
or other ground water related
topics is available by writing
the Texas Water Development
Board, P O. Box 13231,
Austin, Texas 78711-3231.
