“Insulation is a good idea,
but you’d be surprised what
a little weatherstripping and
caulking will do.’’
Doors and windows are the
most common places air
leaks are foudn.
“There are a couple of
things people can do that
won’t cost them anything,
like pulling the drapes and
keeping the doors closed.”
he added.
Pulling the drapes and
closing the blinds keeps the
sunshine from heating up
the air inside the house,
which reduces the load on
the air conditioner.
“The cost of electricity is
going up just like the cost of
everyting else. We’re doing
our best to keep the increase
as low as possible, and our
customers can help thems-
.elves by conserving when-
ever possible.” Mr. John-
son concluded.

bills this summer, Texas Electric
recommends a temperature setting
of no lower than 78°. This may be
higher than you're used to. But
when it's 90° or more outside, yoiill
find that 78° is pretty comfortable
after all.
There are a lot of other ways
you can help cut down on the
amount of electricity you use this
summer. Fbr our free tips booklet on

Summer Clean-Up Sale
ams^/2
Above-average tempera-
tures are driving up electric
bills, warned J.K. (Dub)
Johnson, Texas Electric Ser-
vice Co., Electra Manager.
“This summer's temper-
atures are a lot higher than
normal, and that means air
conditioners are working
harder and using more
electricity than normal,”
Johnson added.
“But there are several
things people can do to cut
their use of electricity and
keep the increase in their
bills as low as possible,”
Johnson said.
One of the best ways is to
turn the air conditioner
thermostat up to 78 degrees
or higher. For each degree
above 75 an air conditioner
uses about 5 percent less
