police activities of the past
week, Chief Prasifka has taken
hand written information and
faxed to us the blotter we are
bringing to us this week. Mid-
October is the target date for the
new computer software.
We were hoping tbat cooler,
cloudy weather conditions would
bring us much needed rain fall
over night Tuesday. This did
not happen, but we are glad for
the.85 of an inch received last
week, and the brief rainfall at
noon on Wednesday. Be sure
and check out your address in
the front page water story to de-
termine which day of the week
you are eligible for outside wa-

For those of you who get
your copy of this edition at
noon on Wednesday — remember
the 2 p.m. meeting at the
Community Center-culminating
the three-day visit of the Main
Street Resource Team. These
five team members have been in
Electra since Monday visiting
with building and business
owners as well as city employees
and representatives of local
boards and organizations. It
should be an interesting and
informative session.
Homecoming time is just
about here, only a week away.
Work has finally begun on the
Grand Theatre, and believe it
or not, temperatures cooled oCT
Tuesday. We even received a
little bit of rain. We said new
things were happening!
Local officials at Agriboard
have been quoted as saying
negotiations for moving the
’ b'usiness to Texarkana have not
been completed, however other
company representatives have
been quoted in newspapers in the
Texarkana area that the move
will be made to Bowie County
beginning in November.
A New Boston newspaper
quotes Company President Barry
Sulivan, “ Agriboard Indus-
tries L. C. will employ approx-
imately 250 workers and will
meet the maximum employment
within two years (January,
1999). He is also quoted as say-
ing Agriboard will take five ad-
ministrators from the Dallas of-
fice and about seven employ-
ees from the Electra plant to
Texarkana.
We have been told that
an injunction preventing plant '
property being moved from
Electra until tax obligations
have been met has been served.
It is our understanding the real
property and personal property
at the site here is valued at
$1,300,000.

> Enough about budgets and
> tax rates! New things are hap-
pening in Electra. The ambii-
lance service will be transferred,
to the hospital on October 1.
Talking to the police chief and
the hospital administrator, we
learned the transfer will actu-
ally take place around 8 a.m.
Thursday rather than at mid-
night, but more importantly,
residents should not make any
changes in the way they re-
port emergencies. They should
continue to call 911. Ambu-
lances will continue to be dis-
patched by the police depart-
ment, even after the new build-
ing at the hospital is complete in
January. A joint announcement
about the transition is expected
next week.
