The specialty team standout
would have ; to be Lee Borton.
Borton returned punts and did an
outstanding job of getting the
ballinto good field position.
This Friday night should-prove a
good testforlhe Tigers. Holliday,
like Archer City, has one of the
best coaching staffs in this area.
Holliday is big and play very
agressive football. Last Friday
they beat Seymour 27-0 and
allowed only a total of 95 yards
offensively. The Eagles are led by
Quarterback Joel Mankins and
runningback Ray Looney. They
depend on.a power type of offense
.with the sweep and traps being the
main course of attack. Mankins is
also a talented passing quarter:
back. ‘
To be successful this’ week?-.the
Tigers must control the ball on
offense and not allow Holliday„tp --
break the long play. The team with
the least amount of turnovers
should win this. one. Having two
similarly talented-teams like Holi-
day and Electra should make for a
great game and add to that the
natural rivalry of the two com-
munities... then it should be a
barn-burner.
We were real pleased with the
support and turnout -of local fans
this past week and hope that it will
continue to grow each week. Local
support means so much to our
players and the entire school
system.

Coaches Pleased With Friday Triumph
. ?. ;
BY EDDIE BRISTER The specialty team
E.H.S.Athletkplrector
Offensive standouts .for Friday
nights 31-8 Electra Tiger win were
Kenny Hobbs and Daryl Trotter
who both gained over 100 yards
rushing and accounted for 24 of
the Tigers 31 points. Hobbs
rushed for 151 yards on 11 carries
with touchdown runs of two, 70
and nine yards. Trotter gained 143
yards on 23 carries and one
touchdown run of 11 yards.
It goes without saying that the
success of any runningback is due
to blocking by offensive linemen.
With the success of Hobbs and
Trotter Friday night, the Tigers
had some excellent ‘up front’
blocking. The line of Luett McMa-
hen, Kurt Adams, Jerry Doss,
Glen Branch, Mark Nelson and
Rex Johnson turned in top perfor-
mances. We thought the blocking
of ends Kerry Shrader, Rusty
McNew and Bruce Powell played a
key roll in the success of our
ground game as well.
I was pleased with the outside
option part of the game as
Quarterback Raymond Jones, a
sophomore, executed the option
pitchout to the outside well. The
final touchdown came with less
than one minute to go on a 17 yard
run by fullback Donny Goforth.
Goforth had 31 yards on six carries
for the night.
It would be hard to single out any
one person on defense as the
teams played very well in all areas
of stopping Archer City. Bruce
Powell should be mentioned for
intercepting two passes and re-,
turning them for a total of 33
yards. Brian Rodgers and Curtis
Barker led the team in tackles
from their linebacking positions.
The defense allowed only 75 yards
rushing and 95 yards through the
airways. Coach Alton Wood prais-
ed the play of Edward Green and
Robert Ward for their secondary
play and both Coaches Ronnie
Medrano and Jim Rich were
pleased with the nights that Jeff
Helton and Clay Seale turned in.
Coach Dwight McNew was pleas-
ed with the total defensive effort.
