Dell Valley -Second place winners in last Saturday's Talent
Show sponsored by the Dell Valley Chamber of Commerce were Mr
Mrs. V. C. Snodgrass and her two sons, Brent and Lindsay. This
talented trio sang two numbers. J. P. and Ollie Le'wis won first,
and a Mixed Quartet won third. In the Children's Division, Jayne
Ellen Gentry won first, Billy and Charles Elias second, and Lennie
Morehead third.

Dell Valley -Hail piled 4 inches deep on the southern rim of
Dell Valley early Sunday morning. The Frank Howell residence can
be seen here where hail damaged roof and ornamental plants around
the house. Some crop damage to cotton,barley and alfalfa was re-
ported in many parts of the valley. Heavy rains dumped over an
inch in the northwestern part of the valley. Farmers are busy re-
planting damaged crops, and are lucky there is still time to re-
plant.
SCHOOL BOARD MEETS
CHURCH OF CHRIST
REVIVAL
Dell Valley - Revival servi-
ces at the Dell City Church of
Christ will commence Tues-
day, May 21. Reverend Rich-
ard Williams from Altas, Ok-
lahoma will will hold the re-
vival. There will be morning
and evening services.
Dell Valley - The Waco
Watershed Work Plan Staff
set up temporary headquarters
in the Mercantile Building at
2:00 PM Mountain Standard
Time Tuesday, May 14.
Rufus A. Beard, head of the
Work Plan Staff in Dell City,
Alfred E. Owens and Gene
Perkins immediately began
survey work on the vertical
control network for the C &
L, Hitson, and Washburn
Draws. It is anticipated that
surveys will also be made on
Comudas, North and Culp
Draws in New Mexico before
the Work Plan Staff moves its
temporary headquarters.
At this time there is only
one survey crew in operation.
At a later date, another 4-
man crew will be in opera-
tion.
The present Waco Watershed
Work Plan Staff plan to be in
Dell Valley working through
May 24. The cooperation of
each and everyone in Dell
Valley is needed so these sur-
veys can be completed and
as quickly as possible.
Dell Valley - The Dell City
School Board met in regular
session May 13, 1968, at 8:00
PM in Superintendent Harmon's
office.
Financial report indicated all
taxes collected to date amount
to $79, 070.14. The budget of
$234, 860. 00 is 65% expended.
Mr. Harmon will be traveling
soon to interview proposed new
teachers for the coming year.
Mrs. Doyle Ziler was rehired
for next vear.
Landscaping plan made for
high school area and plants
will be set as soon as protective
concrete curbings are installed.
Decision was made to adver-
tise for bids on old frame build-
ing on north side of campus for
sale and removal from school
campus.
Headstart Program for summ-
er has been applied for and
approval is expected soon. Re-
model of homemaking cottage
is under study and some bids
and estimates are being secured.
The planning of the proposed
courses of study to offer to
high school students is under
way and parents opinions will
be sought. An information
sheet and questionaire will
be sent to students' homes to
learn parents' preference.
The Education Service Cen-
ter in El Paso gave a workshop
to the school teachers recently
on the use of the overhead
projectors and other facts.
Mothers Club installed a
speshser and public address sys-
tem in the gymnasium last
week at their expense. It is a
very costly system and its ex-
pected to solve the acoustical
problems in that building.
Mothers Club also recently
supplied the school with other
new equipment including an
elaborate movie projector.
The High School Diplomas
for graduating seniors were
signed by school board officers.
The operating bills and sala-
ries were paid and meeting ad-
journed at 11:00 PM.

Dell Valley -Eighth Grade
Graduation will be tonight at
8:00 PM in tire High School
Gymnasium. Baccalaureate
will be Sunday at St. Isidore's
Church at 2:00 PM. High
School Commencement will
be Monday night, May 20, in
the High School Gym at 8:00
PM.
Grazing Meet
Dell City... Bob Jones, Presi-
dent of the Southern New Mexi-
co Grazing Association announ-
ced that tire First Annual Mee-
ting of the Association will be
held Saturday, May 18 in Ala-
mor gordo at the Desert Air
Motor Hotel.
The afternoon meeting will
begin at 1:00 with speakers in-
cluding: Jim Anderson, State
Director of the Bureau of Land
Management; Harry Lee, Chair-
man of the National Cattlemen's
Association Steering Committee
on Public Land; Ruben Panky,
First Vice President of the New
Mexico Cattle Growers; Phil
Harvey, Chairman of the New
Mexico State Advisory Board
and Chairman of the National
Advisory Council on Public
Land; and Harold Runnells,
State Senator and candidate for
John Walker's seat.
Mr. Jones also announced that
elections of officers will be held.
He further stated that the pripie
purpose is to acquaint member-
ship and guests with the Public
Land statutes and to bring peo-
pl e up to date on the Public
Land Law Review Commissions
and related 1 subjects.
Father John Casey will give the
invocation.
Everyone is invited to attend
the meeting, banquet and dance
tost will follow. It is an open
meeting.

of this county, groups of citi-
zens with a set of questions
that deserve unconditional
answers from my opponent
and from myself. The follow-

answer, under oath, and an
open invitation to my oppo-
nent to break his silence and
give assurance of his intentions
to the voters of this county.

County he will improve the
present attitude of said de-
partment to the point where
each representative shall be-
come an accepted and inter-
ested member of the comm-
unity and therefore a true pu-
blic servant.

elected Sheriff he will consi-
der such a job a full time job
and will not permit outside
interests to interfere with it
directly or indirectly.

Sierra Blanca - The Comm-
issioners' Court met in regular
session Monday at the Sierra
Blanca Courthouse with County
Judge Tom Neely presiding.
Bills were read and approved
for payment. A Resolution for
approval by the Texas Water
. Planning Commission was read
favoring the inclusion of a
1, 000, 000 acre feet of irriga-
tion water for Hudspeth, Cul-
berson and El Paso Counties.
A motion was made"and
carried that Hudspeth County
rent office space from the
City of Dell City at the exist-
ing rate.

preocupaciones, viendo el re-
loj y tratando de "ganarle" a
la luz de trafico. EL numero '
de empleos disponibles para
jovenes de edad escolar es bas-
tante reducido en la gran urbe
y por cada estudiante que siente
la satisfaccion de haber encon-
trado empleo, encontramos
diez que se ven obligados a
regresar sintiendo desgano y un
cierto grado de rebeldia.
Volviendo a la zona rural en-
contramos que, sin importar la
edad, el que quiere ocuparse
de algo lo logra sin mucho es-
