DAY OF THANKSGIVING...
.... Every nation has its
cherished customs and tra-
ditions. Some go back to the
beginning of Christianity or
even further. Some are of
more recent origin such as
Thanksgiving which had its
inception in what is now the
United States when a small
band of pilgrims, newly lan-
ded on the hostile shores of
New England, gave thanks
for the mere fact of being
alive.
Thanksgiving has become
a solidly entrenched Ameri-
can institution. It offers firm
reassurance of the continuity
and stability of all that is
good and wholesome in U. S.
life today. As families and
friends gather together to
share the repast of Thanks-
giving, they should pause to
recall the purpose of that
first day of thanks participa-
ted in by a handful of pil-
grims centuries ago. That
purpose is an expression of
simple appreciation for the
fact of survival—of being
alive.
W e are not only alive to-
day, but we have a nation
that attained heights beyond
anything the pilgrims could
have dreamed. In attaining
those heights, our country
stands in danger of losing
its sense of values. Novem-
ber 25— THANKSGIVING—
is- an appropriate day to
pledge their restoration.
IT IS A GOOD TIME, too,
to be thankful for Dell Vall-
ey and its many assets.....
HA PPY THANKSGIVING!
