AUSTIN. Tex., Feb. 9 —Senators
Harper. Kellie. Veale and Weinert,
when the Senate met this morning,
asked to be rcordd aa voting “no"
on the question raised by Senator
Thomas yesterday that lobbyists had
improperly intimidated senators.
The three senators voting today de-
nied knowing of any such obtrusive
lobbying.— The statement given to
press by Thomas in which he charged
the Senators lacked patriotism be-
cause they failed to rally to his sup-
port Is stirring the senators deeply
and may cause a volcanic outburst
later.
Senator Sturgeon in the senate an-
nounced the committee investigating
the alleged violations of the anti-
lobby law wtl meet this afternoon
The Senate then adjourne duntil to-
morrow.
Would Permit Exchange of Adver-
tising for Transportation.
AUSTIN, Feb. ».—In the Senate
this morning a bill was introduced
by Senators Perkins. Senter and
Hudspeth fixing and declaring the
right of contract between newspapers
and railroads, interurban, and tele-
phone lines. This bill will be pushed
instead of the measure amending the
anti-pass law which was so emascu-
lated in the committee as to mske its
passage doubtful.
Senator Hudspeth introduced a bill
.•xing the fees of district attorneys
in the several counties in his .district
Senator Greer introduced a' bill
prohibiting more than one liquor
prescription stand to each 5.000 in-
habitants in local option territory.
Anti-Nunday Excursion BUI Gets a
Favorable Report.
AUSTIN. Tex., Feb. •.—The
House judiciary committee today
reported the anti-Sunday excursion
bill by a vote of six to five. Noice
of an adverse minority report was
given. The natl-Sunda> baseball
measure was heard, but action was
deferred.
The private corporation committee
today eonsilered the bill fixing Inter-
changeable rates between telephone
companies. P. S. Hughes of Pales-
tine gave the bill a jolt when he de-
clared that under its provisions any
merchant might Install teephone ser-
vice in his place of business, run a
line to the street and compel tele-
phone connection.and give free ser-
vice to everybody. Final action on
this bill was deferred.
