Two Gases of Diphtheria Are
Reported In Family at Justin
Two cane* of diphtheria are report-
ed in one family at Justin by Dr. T. R.
Allen of Justin. The cases are under
quarantine and every possible precau-
tion is being taken to prevent spread-
ing of the disease. There have been a
few cares reported from nearly every
part of the county with possible ex-
ception of the northeastern part. The
County Health Officer and the attend-
ing physicians are taking precautions
to prevent a general epidemic of diph-
theria in the county, but it seems now
to be more prevalent In the rural aec-
tlons than In the towns.

Christian Science does teach that
Clod is AH. the only Creator. "I am the
Ixtrd. and there la none else; There is
no Clod beside me." It also teaches that
Clod is good; that He is Love, and that
He does not cognize evil. "Thou art of
purer eyes than to behold evil, and
canst not look'on Iniquity.” GkhI's crea-
tion. Including man made in God’s
Image ahd likeness, as Christian Sci-
ence teaches, is perfect, eternal. "And
God Saw all that He nad made and be-
hold It was very good"; "All things
were made by Him, and without Him
was not anything made that was
made." ’
Christian Scientists do not deny that
sickness and sin exist as sense phe-
nomena, but they do deny that they
are real In the sense of being God-or-
dained; they see them as illusions of
the human senses, as false beliefs, and
God’s law rightly understood, which
Is the true idea of life, destroys them.
There are no contradictions or incon-
sistencies In Mrs. Eddy’s writings to one
who understands these writings. The
only evidence that these teachings are
understood is the ability on the part
of the student to heal disease and sin
throug-h this understanding. It is
clearly obvious then, that any one who
has not this healing ability as a re-
sult of an understanding of God’s Word
as Interpreted in Christian Science, is
not an authorized critic of the sub-
ject Many Bible passages, if not cor-
rectly interpreted, would appear to be
directly in opposition one to the oth-

DR. CONANT** C«IT1GI«H
To the Rsoord-Chronlcle.
In your Issue of October 6th appoar-
ed some criticisms on Christian Science,
by Dr. Conant, which are unfair to
Christian Science and* to Mrs. Eddy, Ito
founder and discoverer. The quotations
which the speaker attributes to Mrs.
Eddy sre generally not In fl)*> lan-
guage of Mrs. Eddy ns given tn her
works. The unfairness with which
most critics of Christian Science strike
their blow is recognized by Intelligent
thinking persons, and conseqtier'ly
their criticisms have little weight. The
statement that Christian science Is “an
snetent philosophy that denier the ex-
istence of matter, and a religion that
denies every fundamental teaching of
the Bible,” Is wholly false. The truth
is. .Christian Science teaches nothing it*
common with apy "nnclent phlloiso-
phy.” and it Is In harmony with all
the fundamental teachings of the Bi-
ble. Indeed, Christian Scientists look
to the spiritual Interpretation of the
Scriptures for direction and guidance
In all things.
Mrs Eddy’s teaching In regard to
matter Is nothing novel or shocking,
when looked at intelligently. She re-
fers to It as a human concept, as like-
wise ah* would treat disease, sin. etc.
Evene phjrlclsts do not qccept what Is
termed matter for what It seems; they
reduce ft to force or energy, and no
one Is amazed at this theory.
That the testimony of the material
senses cannot be relied upon for what
it tells one, all will readily agree. The
horizon and the sky appear to meet
