Higher property values are translating into a windfall for
Henderson school teachers. The school board approved an
amended compensation plan Tuesday evening increasing
teacher pay after new appraisal values were released in late
July.
Last month the board approved a new compensation plan
designed to bring the district more in line with surrounding
districts, especially for teachers with 10 to 20 years of experi-
ence.
“Right now it is a teacher’s market," Superintendent Keith
Boles told the board. “It’s going to continue to be more and
more important that we stay competitive."
Boles explained that the district was already competitive
for new teachers, but teachers with a few years of experi-
ence were being paid increasingly less than those at nearby
districts.
“We’re losing experienced, qualified teachers,” Boles told
the board last month.
Originally, Boles had proposed a plan that was to be
phased-in over three years, eventually lifting sagging mid-
level pay to keep pace with other districts.
However, board members had expressed their desire to

While construction crews race to finish the major renova-
tions to the Henderson High School football stadium before
this year’s first home game on September 14, a delay in the
installation of the elevator threatens to throw a kink in the
game plan. The lack of an elevator won’t stop the stadium’s
opening, but it will make it more difficult to accommodate visi-
tors and staff, especially during Homecoming two weeks later.
“I think we have a construction company that is willing to
do everything necessary,” Superintendent Keith Boles told the
school board during their Tuesday evening meeting.
“Yes, we are exploring all the options,” said Marc Rauzi, the
construction company’s representative who came to the meet-
ing to update the board on the stadium’s progress.
Rauzi said, with the exception of the elevator, he expects to
have the stadium completed by the Sept. 14 target date.
