SHS teams up with local
bank for “Money Matters
Credit card bills, debt, savings, financing higher educa-
tion and financial freedom are not often on the minds of
High School students, yet the financial decisions that they
make today will have long-term effects on their lives. Be-
ing financially uneducated jeopardizes a teens ability to
succeed in today’s complex and competitive world. To that
end, Teresa Melott, the Business Education “Money Mat-
ters” teacher at Sanger High School has teamed up with
First United Bank and their Financial Scholars Program to
provide EverFi’s Financial Literacy program at no cost to
students, parents and the district. A certification ceremony
honoring over 40 SHS students who achieved certification
in financial literacy after completing the EverFi program
was held on May 16.
The EverFi’s Financial Literacy Program uses the tools
teens love - digital learning and gaming- in an innovative
web-based environment to educate students on critical fi-
nancial issues. This program uses the latest technology
including rich media, high-definition video, simulation,
diagrams and avatars to engage students in real life finan-
cial situations. Some of the topics covered are checking
accounts, credit cards, the cost of credit, purchasing a car,
income taxes, investing, etc.
7th period - Liz Ellis-First United Bank, Logan Thomas, Halen Frazier, Wyatt Williams,
Cassidy Tuscans, Brians Garcia, Sabrina Bear. Back Row: Casey Sykes, Logan
Looper, Garrett McLeod, Wesley Cook, Brett Burns, Quinten Cassaday , and Mrs Teresa
Melott.
