board our mam focus is to work and engage with our communities
to improve student achievement. Our focus should be on setting
a Clear Vision, working with our Superintendent to achieve that
vision. Develop Policy that promotes our vision, establish measur-
able objectives to assure we on track to our vision which includes
fiscal responsibility. Hold ourselves accountable for our actions, as
a board. Provide Clear and Precise feedback to our community,
focus on transparency.
What is your vision for education in this community? To be
brilliant in all that we do. Creating a culture that makes Principals,
Techers and Staff stay in Sanger because we are brilliant at what
we do and how we do it.
Do you understand the role of the superintendent? Describe
the superintendent’s role: Yes, the superintendents focus will be
to oversee the operations of the schools within the district. The
Superintendent has a role in budget development, student achieve-
ment evaluation, principle, teacher evaluation, instructional pro-
grams and facility management. They have the responsibility of
assuring the educational standards are being achieved and devel-
oping plans to bridge any gaps.
What do you think is expected of you as a board member?
As a member of the board I will be there to be the sound board
of our community to assure we are making the right decisions
for the community and its schools. To weigh in and drive policy
and direction, prioritize and approve budgets. Establish the vision
and overall goals of the school and to hire/evaluate our Superin-
tendent, coach them on the core values of the community and be
there for guidance as appropriate. We are to manage the collective
bargaining process for the school’s district employees, while ap-
proving many of the daily operations adopting curriculums, ap-
proving outside vendors, school calendars, etc. As a board member
the expectation shall also be to assure, we are making the correct
decisions when hiring and or terminating a district employee.

for Sanger ISD? I believe a long term facilities project should
be started in order to facilitate the growth that Sanger is about
to experience. I know most of our campuses are at full capacity
or heading in that direction. I also believe we need to do a better
job of preparing our students for their post high school life. As a
district we have taken steps towards this over the past couple of
years, however, I personally feel we need to elevate the methods
in which we are preparing our students.
Is it important to you to keep the property tax rate from ris-
ing for the residents of Sanger ISD? Tax rates are always a hot
topic. As an accountant and engaged citizen of this community, I
do not believe that throwing more money at problems is the most
effective solution. It is more important to be a good steward of
the revenue the district receives from taxpayers. If we maintain
effective fiscal management/responsibility with the current tax
revenue in combination with the expected future growth, then we
can keep the SISD property tax rates at reasonable levels.
What 2 specific things would you most like to see changed
pertaining to the school system? I would like to see the district
become more proactive in preparing for the upcoming growth
Sanger is expecting to experience. I would also like to further
evaluate and ensure that our students are being prepared for their
future after graduation.
What are your most important overall goals for Sanger
ISD? My most important overall goal for Sanger ISD is to fos-
ter sustainable resource management procedures to facilitate
a forward-thinking culture. There is constant change occurring
all around us, so it is imperative to stay on the forefront of the
changes we see, being more proactive and less reactive. My hope
is that this will place the district as one of the front runners in
the educational system, providing highly effective leaders for our
future and creating a desire for the best staff to come wok for our
district. Eet’s make Sanger a great place to live and educate your
children together!
What do you see as the board’s roles and responsibilities?
The board’s main roles and responsibilities consist of bridging the
gap between the school district and the community. This consists
of being visible in the community and maintaining commitments
to be involved in all aspects of the district. We are the main over-
sight for the district concerning budget, superintendent, policies
and procedures. We should provide accountability and transpar-
ency to the direction the school district and community are trying
to follow.
What is your vision for education in this community? My vi-
sion for education in this community is to provide a safe environ-
ment that fosters educational and personal growth for every one
of our students. Each student should have access to the resources
for them to graduate with a top-notch education and become ef-
fectively engaged citizens of our society.
Do you understand the role of the superintendent? Describe
the superintendent’s role: The superintendent’s role is to facilitate
the vision, policy and goals for the district that are laid out by the
school board. They also should be able to effectively communi-
cate and manage the school staff that supports our students.
What do you think is expected of you as a board member? A
board member is expected to represent the voice of the communi-
ty. I am also expected to have a genuine desire to make decisions
based on what is best for all our current and future students with-
in the district. A school board is a team of community members
so I should be expected to be an effective member of the team that
communicates my insight and experiences effectively so that the
board can collaborate to provide the best possible resolutions to
any matters they are asked to handle.

“I think, really honestly, it has to be someone who’s going
to put the stakeholders’ interests at the forefront. They have to be
someone who has good moral character who’s going to look out
for the interests of not only teachers but the students as well.”

children receive the benefits. Our Teachers, Principals and Staff
spend more time with our children next to us, its in our best inter-
est to engage, collaborate and invest in them.
What motivates you to want to become a board member? I
have seen one of my children through SISD and have two more
going through grade school with one on the way, I am vested for
the long run. I also have nieces, nephews’ and neighbors attending
SISD. I am motivated in assuring they have the best possible edu-
cational experience possible.
What do you believe are the most important projects to be
started or completed in the next two years for Sanger ISD? The
most important project is to assess our needs and assure our focus
is placed on the right issues that address our communities concern
and growth. That said we have to assure we have a stable I.T infa-
structure to assure our children our up to date and set for success,
while addressing our growth needs balanced with meeting our core
values.
Is it important to you to keep the property tax rate from rising
for the residents of Sanger ISD? Keeping our taxes does is very
important to me. However as a school board member our first re-
sponsibility is assuring our community is engaged and up to date
with our districts educational needs which will require plans for
sustainability and growth.
What 2 specific things would you most like to see changed
pertaining to the school system? I would like to see more commu-
nity engagement into the issues to obtain feedback and collaborate
to identify the best solutions possible. I’d like to see more Voca-
tional and Technology programs being offered. I would like to see
firm plans to address student achievement and assure we have a
plan to improve regulated and mandatory score cards. Brilliance
should be our goal.
What are your most important overall goals for Sanger ISD?
Setting a clear, concise vision that will increase student achieve-
ment, while collaborating and engaging our community, teachers,
and staff to develop a best in class culture. Set stretch goals for
our campuses to improve upon student achievement and regulated
scorecards, while having our campus staff engage with one anoth-
er to share lessons learned and best practices. Prepare our commu-
nity for the growth ahead of us to assure we are well equipped for
sustainability. Academic success is not an option.
What do you see as the board’s roles and responsibilities? As a
School Board reviewing six
Superintendent applicants
The Sanger ISD School Board narrowed its search to six
applicants for Superintendent. The board is working with Texas
Association of School Boards (TASB) and will began interviewing
applicants April 22, 23 and 24. In February, the board approved
TASB Executive Search Services (ESS) as their Superintendent
search firm.
On April 25 another special meeting will be held to follow
up with TASB. Follow up interviews are set for April 29 and 30.
On May 8, at 5 p.m., the board hopes to name a lone finalist and on
May 30 at 5 p.m., vote to name the new Superintendent.
“From a professional standpoint, the characteristics
I’d like to see them have are integrity, honesty, fairness and a
variety of knowledge and experience inside the classroom and
outside the classroom. And that they are a change agent, so they
understand the pacing of the community and how to kind of get
everybody on the same page because not everybody is right on
the same page right now.” - BRANDON KNIGHT
“I would like to see a person who’s vetted to be fit for the
purposes of Sanger. So, we’ve hired a few superintendents who
haven’t worked out for us, and it’s really around what their vision
is and looking at what demonstrated experience they have to be
able contribute to what Sanger’s core values are.” - GUY SAENZ
Here is what sort of person the Place 5 candidates hope to see hired
for Superintedent?
“Well I worked for three superintendents while I was at
Sanger ISD, so I think I know what it takes, and one of the most
important things to me is someone who can communicate. And
certainly someone who is very knowledgeable of school financ-
es. Those are the two most important things that I think we can
find in a superintendent.” - LISA CODY
