If between your bare feet and the
pulsating warmth of the new-born
spring of Eastertide there is a pair of
well constructed, stylish shoes, some
of the gladness of the re-born world
will seep into your system.
When we talk about shoes the town
listens because we know a whole lot
about the subject—come in and see if
we don’t.
BECAUSE—You get GOOD QUALITY. It pays to have good stock, to
plant good seed, to farm good land, to read good books, to keep good company,
to buy good goods. In any of these things you might save some money AT
FIRST on a cheap quality, but you know how expensive it would be in the end.
Quality comes first, and with it should go fair prices. Without either, the mer-
chant soon fails; and without both his career is hard and short. For more
than 30 years this store has put quality first, together with fair prices and
good service—and practically all the citizens of the community are our reg-
ular, satisfied customers. Without Quality First, we could not have held out,
could not have made so many friends, and could not have grown to be the old-
est and largest hardware store in the county—and as the years go by, w’e are
ever striving to improve the quality of everything we sell. Before you buy
think of the guaranteed Quality, Service and Prices at Ever s.

WHY YOU SHOULD PATRONIZE THE MERCHANTS OF
DENTON.
To the buyers and sellers of merchandise of Denton and
Denton county.
It is the wish of the Denton Chamber of Commerce to
bring about a more friendly relation between Denton mer-
chants and their customers both in town and county. It wish-
es to demonstrate the interdependence of the town and county
upon each other. How they both depend on each other for a
market for the goods which they have for sale and how one
can therefore not prosper unless the other dote. It is its de- *
sire to made Denton the trading center of Denton County, a
clearing house of the county’s interests and to create a unity
of spirit and a fraternal feeling between the people of the en-
tire county. It offers ten reasons why you should Buy-At,
-Home. Won’t you read them, think them over and decide
if it is not correct in advancing them!
REASON NO. 1.
You will findover one hundred business houses in Den-
ton that are amply capitalized and amply equipped to supply
your every need, be it small or large. You will find every clerk
in these establishments courteous, anxious, to serve you and
more than willing to show you any goods in which you may be
interested. Won’t you see the goods which Denton merchants
offer before deciding to order from the mail order house!
REASON NO. 2.
Money sent to mail order houses leaves your county for-
ever, no one save the owners and ^employees of the mail order
house derive any benefit from it.
But when you spend money at home it stays at home, it
helps home people, it helps you, it helps to pay the burden of
txation that is placed upon your shoulders, it helps to create
a more friendly feeling toward your fellow’ man and your
neighbor, it serves in increasing the material prosperity of your
community. Don’t you believe this is one reason why your
money should be spent at home?
REASON NO. 3.
A town, in its commercial aspect, is a market place and its
efforts to widen its scope as such should be encouraged by,ev-
ery one having goods to sell. Many people in the cqunty raise
poultry, hogs, cattle, grain, cotton and other farm and garden
products which they' must sell in order to live. Did it ever
occur to you to ask a catalogue house to take these products
off your hands? Suppose you have a fat hog, a pound of but-
ter, two dozen eggs, a gallon of milk that you wish to sell and
were to send them to a mail order house and ask it to send
merchandise for them. The answer would come back like a
shot, “We can’t use your goods at all.” Your best, most ac-
cessible market is your local market and it has reached its
limit of excellence when it takes at remunerative prices every-
thing you raise or produce. Denton business people are do-
ing everything in their power to render Denton more valuable
as a market for country products and only ask that the pro-
ducer buy from Denton merchants such goods as he may have
ordered from a mail order house which has no interest in him
or his welfare. Trade is a mutual affair from which both
buyer and seller should profit. Why not build up your local
town by doing all your buying and selling there instead of some
distant city which cares nothing for local interest or affairs.
REASON NO. 4.
There was a time years ago when you may have been jus-
tified in the excuse that you could not find a place in Deuton
that carried the particular line of goods desired, but look what
Denton is today. From her merchants the most varied wants
may be supplied.
There are hardware stores, dry goods stores, grocery
stores, drug stores, jewelry stores, meat markets, machine
shops, ice-cream factories, wholesale houses, mills, ice factor-
ies; in fact, Denton has everything that goes to make up a
real live city and goods may be bought as cheaply from her
merchants as you would get them anywhere. Her four strong
banks are ready any time to assist any responsible person in
any legitimate undertaking. Take the goods which Denton
merchants offer you, compare them in grade and price' with
those offered by the mail order house and convince yourself
that the same goods sell for essentially the same price in Den-
ton that you pay from the mail order house.
REASON NO. 5.
Next comes the most important subject of all—taxes.
What part of the taxes of Denton county do the foreign mail
order houses pay ? What person or group of persons in Denton
county does this question not interest? But do you suppose
it interests your mail order houses at all?* No. They care
very little whether your child receives an education or whether
you have public schools. They are little concerned. They find
very little time to take up with your welfare or the interests
of your families. In this respect how do they compare with
the local merchant? The local merchant is always a local tax
payer; he is always a liberal contributor to every local enter-
prise for the public good. This being true is not your local
merchant always entitled to your patronage, other things be-
ing equal!
We are interested in and are a part of your community, and
will appreciate your support.

REASON NO. 6.
It is to be hoped that this has never happened to you and
. may never, but how often it has happened that some farmer has
lost his home, everything he owned has gone up in smoke. He
is destitute and in debt and there is nothing left for him to do
but to make a direct appeal for help from his local merchants.
These merchants, big hearted and liberal men, do they stand
by and see him suffer and want for anything? No! They carry
him over; they help stem the tide of the mighty rushing waters
of disaster. More likely in absence of insurance they contribute
to assist in rebuilding his home. Did you ever hear of your mail
order house doing this! Did you ever appeal to them for help?
If you have, the results would certainly be of public interest.
Your transactions with the mail order house are strictly of a
cash nature; your local merchant gets cash if he can, if not he
takes your promise to pay when you get it, All this being
true who is entitled to your preference and patronage—your
local merchant or the mail order house ?
REASON NO. 7.
Ahe you interested in your loved ones at home ? When a boy
or girl appears in your home you wish td educate them, pre-
pare them for their battle with the world. But did you ever
stop to think that some day your boy would like to be a mer-
chant! It would call for millions of capital to become a mail
order merchant and he must become a small town merchant
because it calls, for less capital. But do you ever stop to think
, that if everybody patronized the mail order house for all their
wants that before long there would not be any local merchants.
There would not be any small town, for remove the local mer-
chant from, a town and how long would there be a town there ?
The towns gone your land worth today $100.00 an acre would
be' worth $50 because it would be so far from any market
and the conveniences which the small town provides. The
small merchant gone, your every want must perforce be sup-
