The tips that appear on the

that we run on our web page
"Fannin County DA" under
the Crime Prevention section
are all great but as mentioned
previously, one the best one
from the law enforcement
standpoint is having cameras
inside as well as outside. A
camera is going to capture
pictures of people, what's
being carried out of the house,
vehicles, hopefully with tag
numbers and times of the
burglary. Cameras are not
very expensive comparatively
speaking as to what you might
lose; however you have to
be careful where you place
them for best results and
to preclude the thief from
stealing them also.
Security alarms are also
great but only if they are
turned on and they need to

the company you hire to run

properly. Police departments
and sheriff's offices will
work with you to insure they
work. A loud siren or klaxon
horn on the exterior is also
good, alerting neighbors that
something is happening when
that alarm goes off.
Crime prevention,
whither in a rural area or in
the city, depends on neighbors
watching out for neighbors. If
you see someone that doesn't
fit in your neighborhood,
alert your neighbors and law
enforcement. The suspicious
person you report today may
have your house targeted for
next week. Along with this
kind of crime prevention in
the rural areas is the dumping
of trash on our rural, back
county roads. Not only is
it not keeping Texas and
our county clean but it also
cost a lot of money for your
volunteer hours spent by
Southwest Employees and
416 labor hours by external
contractors.

Burglary today is a
multimillion dollar business
that can happen anywhere at
any time. Since I previously
worked for the Fannin County
Sheriff's Office I have a
good understanding of how
many times this happens in
Fannin County. A significant
number of burglaries are
connected to the drug cases
we see at the Fannin County
District Attorney's Office.
Criminals have to steal to
support their drug habit,
stolen property recovered in
drug cases often comes from
burglaries and that becomes
a never ending cycle. Fannin
County is a rural county
with a lot of homes out in
the county as well as in
our cities. Those homes
are targets of opportunity
for burglary because of the

I am proud
to be a

in one
of these transformative
opportunities, the Manager in

aspect of the program, but
the Servant's Heart project is
something I’m especially proud
to have been a part of.
For 14 years, Southwest
MIT participants have
immersed themselves into a

a non-profit organization

At Southwest, we talk about

What
violence?
Domestic violence
includes physical violence,
sexual violence, threats, and
emotional abuse that is part of
a systematic pattern of power
and control.
Did you know?
In the United States,
an average of 20 people
experience some type of
physical violence every
minute. This means that more
than 10 million people are
abused annually. The domestic
violence hotlines receives over
20,000 calls a day.
