The hustle and bustle of
the holiday season will pick
up this Saturday, Dec. 1, as
both Leonard and Blue Ridge
will have their annual town
Christmas festivities.
The Leonard Chamber of
Commerce is again hosting
the Leonard Toy Drive this
year for Leonard residents in
need. The deadline to sign up

at the First United Methodist
Church. No pre-registration is
required and participants are
asked to not throw candy, for
the safety of the spectators.
Churches, organizations,
classes, political candidates
and other groups are invited
and welcome to put together a
float or entry of some kind and
are encouraged to dress and/
or decorate their entry for the
theme. The more the merrier.
The parade will follow
the longer route used in
recent years for the Picnic
and Christmas parades. That
route is as follows: from
the Leonard school parking
lots travel south on Poplar
one block, turn west down
Mulberry to Parmele, turn
south on Parmele to Highway
78/Fannin St., turn right on
78/Fannin to the downtown
square, turn right on Connett
families adopted families
who had signed up, and that
is an option this year. Those
adopting a family shop for the
child(ren) and then deliver the
items purchased to organizers
before pick-up day.
Distribution is scheduled
for Friday, Dec. 20, from 2-7
p.m. at West Leonard Water
and Cade Doggett of Bells;
Offensive Guards: Caleb
Aguilar of Blue Ridge,
Dakota Davis of Cooper

to help disburse the gifts.

The City of Blue Ridge
Christmas Parade is set for
this coming Saturday, Dec. 1,
at 6 p.m. This year's parade
theme is "Rocking Around
the Christmas Tree". For
more information or to get a
parade sign-up form, contact

Immediately following,
a Chili Cook-Off and Silent
Auction will take place at
the Blue Ridge High School
cafeteria. The cost is $5 for
all you can eat with drinks

supports the Blue Ridge Band

School. Tickets are $8 for adults
and $5 for students. The winner
of this game will play the winner
of DeLeon and Riesel for the
regional championship.

Brown earned the honor
of Offensive Newcomer of
the Year and Blue Ridge
sophomore Lucas Jenkins
earned the honor of Defensive
Newcomer of the Year for the
District 9-3A 2018 football
season. Receiving Coach of
the Year was district champion
Cooper's Head Football Coach
Rod Castorena, in his first
year at the helm for the team.
Castorena was accompanied
by three of his own in the
District Superlative selections

The Annual Holiday
Sip and Stroll in Blue Ridge
will take place the following
Friday, Dec. 7, from 6-9
p.m. Attendees can stroll the
downtown square and shop
with some fine retailers while
enjoying tastings from area
Texas wineries and breweries
and food samples from
favorites in and around Blue
Ridge.
The cost is $35 for 20
wine/beer tastings and food
samplings or $15 for non-
alcoholic beverages and food
samplings. Pre-sale tickets
are available through the Blue
Ridge Chamber of Commerce,
with the remaining tickets sold
at the event.
Check-in will begin at 6
p.m. in front of City Hall. All

but still want to get in their
requests to Ole Saint Nick,
Santa and his faithful elves
will make their annual stop
at the Leonard Library from

Preslie Watson of Leonard was a contestant in the
Miss Texas Teen USA Pageant this past weekend in
Houston. Preslie represented DFW and competed
in the interview, activewear and evening gown
categories where she received Top 15 out of 118
participants. Preslie is the daughter of James and
Sheri Watson of Leonard and is a senior at Leonard
High School.

Broadband, turn right again
on Collin Street in front of
Leonard Pharmacy, and then
turn left on Main Street. The
parade will follow Main Street
north to Mulberry, then turn
right and return to the school
parking lots from which they
started.
For those wanting
to watch, this means that
residents can set up a lawn
chair in their yard or at the
Baptist Church or Methodist
Church parking lots to do
so. There will be music at
the square before the parade,
and Chamber of Commerce
President Mark Blackerby will
announce entries as they go by,
but the longer route provides
many more places from which
to view the event.

Storybook Christmas”. Line-
up will start at 3 p.m., with the
parade starting at 4 p.m.
Cars, trucks, tractors,
floats and other motorized
vehicles will meet in the
Leonard Junior High Parking
lot (at the corner of Hackberry
and Poplar Streets), horses and
wagons will meet the Leonard
ISD Administration parking lot
off of U.S. Highway 69, and
all entries on foot (marchers,
kid wagons, etc.), bicycles
and non-motorized will meet
