Robertson looked good in the
late stages of the game on de-
fense.
For the Elks, the entire de-
fensive unit was tough, allow-
ing Alvarado only 54 yards
rushing. The Elks offensive unit
moved through the Indians' de-
fense for 27 first down and a
total offense of 384 yards, the
best output this year.

TO SERVE SUPPER
A Supper will be served Sat-
urday, Oct. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m.
at the Rendon Fire Hall for
the benefit of the Cope Ceme-
tery Association.

bers are urged to be present

District Scouts
Plan Cauporee
All Scout Troops of the Horn-
ed Frog District, including Bur-
leson Scout Troop 39 will stage
a comporee Oct 1 and 2 at
Mountain Valley Ranch South-
west of Burleson.
Patrols will participate in
competition in lashing, fire
building, tent pitching, knot
tying, first aid, map reading,
nature study, Morse Code, ob-
servation and log chopping.
Boys 12 years of age and up
who would like to join the
troop are invited to contact a
boy who is already a Scout.
The public is invited to at-
tend the Camporee competition.

Gospel Singing
The Reece Prairie Baptist
Church will have an old time
Gospel Singing Sunday night,
Oct. 3 at 7:80.
The string band will be com-
posed of Leo Elder, Church
Music Director, Clarence Wal-
drop, Dick Waldon, Merrell
Williams, Dean Cochran, and
Mrs. Maggie Sanders.
The public is cordially invit-
ed to attend.
Robert E. Robbins, son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. E. F.
Robbins, passed away Sept. 27,
1965 in a hospital in Denver,
Colo., after major surgery some
months ago and was taken sud-
denly by a heart attack.
Mr. Robbins retired some
years ago, but was active in In-
ternal Revenue business. He
was a deacon in the First Bap-
tist Church of Denver.
Survivors are his wife, three
sons, Robert Earl Jr., Denver,
William Freeman, Pasadena,
Calif., and Howard Lee Rob-
bins, Billings, Montana; two
daughters, Dorothy Helen of
Denver, and Frances Jo of
Ogden, Utah; one brother, Dr.
E. Freeman Robbins of Hous-
ton, and four sisters, Mrs. Lee
A. Neil, Sherman, Mrs. A. H.
Loyless, Burleson, Mrs. S. A.
Brister, Waco and Mrs. Pat E.
Hodge, Austin.
Funeral services were held
at the First Baptist Church in
Denver Wednesday, Sept 29, at
Denver Thursday, Sept. 29, at
10 o'clock.

Miss Suzanne Heberle, daugh-
ter of Dr. and Mrs. James P.
Heberle, was crowned 1965
Homecoming Queen at halftime
activities last Friday night at
the Homecoming game.
Mrs. Billy Ray Hill
crowned Queen of the Exes
earlier in the day.

Elks Down Alvarado Indians 26-10
The Burleson Elks, improving with each game, de-
feated the Alvarado Indians 26-10 in a non-conference
game last Friday night at Elk Stadium before appoxi-
mabely 3,000 homecoming fans.
The first quarter was
scoreless, but on the first
play of the second period,
the Elks scored on a one-
yard sweep. The kick for
the extra point was good and
the Elks led 7-0 with 11:07 left
in the half. The score came aft-
er the Elks had driven 69 yards,
mostly on the ground.
The Elks drove 56 yards the
next time they had the ball,
scored on a five yard off tackle
play by Jimmy Summers. The
conversion was good and Bur-
leson led 14-0 with 6:07 left
in the half.
Alvarado drove 37 yards to
the Elk 17 yard line and on
fourth and four, James Rob-
ertson kicked a field goal mak-
ing the score 14-3 Burleson.
After an interception by
Bruce King on the Burleson 45,
the Elks drove 55 yards in 6
plays and scored with Jerry
Baxter going over from the 2.
The kick was wide and at the
intermission the Elks led 20-3.
Burleson moved, behind good
blocking in the line, to the Al-
varado 12 in the third period,
but fumbled. Alvarado could
move no closer than the Bur-
leson 38 in the third stanza.
With 5:04 left in the fourth
quarter, Roy Bean recovered a
fumble for the Elks on the Al-
varado one. Mike Fortenberry
blasted over right guard for
one yard and the fourth touch-
down for the Elks. The run for
the extra points was unsuccess-
ful and the score stood 26-3.

The Burleson Pre - School
P-TA held their first meeting
of the year Tuesday. It was
their Membership Tea, and was
held in the home of Mrs. Gene
King. There were 18 members,
and 17 guests who attended the
affair.
The color of flowers, center-
piece and etc. were yellow and

Sorority Holds
Tea Honoring
New Pledges
The Omega Delta Chapter of
Beta Sigma Phi held its Pre-
ferential Tea, Sunday, Sept. 19,
in the home of Mrs. Sally Ste-
wart. Four new pledges were
honored: Elna Hill, Jo Poslay,
Flo Kincaid and Jimmie Bry-
son.
The regular meeting was held
Monday, Sept 20 in the home
of Mrs. Jeanne Penny. Mrs.
Darlene Freeman was elected
our Sorority Sweetheart. A pro-
gram on “Speech” was given by
Mrs. Darlene Freeman. Refresh-
ments were served to 13 mem-
bers.
Mrs. Darlene Freeman rode
in the Homecoming Parade Fri-
day.
Mrs. Cleo Kiker is receiving
medical treatment thia week in
the Cleburne Memorial Hos-
pital. Her daughter, Mrs. Lorn
Roden reports that she is do-
ing nicely.
The Room Mothers have been
chosen. They all hope the Math-
ers and Dads will help to dec-
orate and display the booths in
the best form to carry out the
theme of tthe carnival.
The goal this year la $2,000.
The goal should be reached
easily with the cooperation of
41 the families in Burleson. Ev-
eryone is invited to attend.

new Educational Building of the First Baptist
Church. Contract has been let to Jimmy Schu-
macher who will construct the $145,000 building
in the near future.

It takes on many forms, but the
nicest part is that Mom, Dad,
sister, and brother Join in for
this annual time.
