Eddie Hall, the Bulldog's ver-
satile do-all athlete, was hon-
ored Sunday by selection to the
Abilene Reporter-News All
Area Team.
Hall, a 6-3, 200 ib. junior,
played end on offense and de-
fense for the Dogs as well as
handling punting chores. He
had 683 receiving yards and
seven touchdowns on 39 recep-
tions from his tight end posi-
tion. From the defensive side of
the line of scrimmage, Hall had
98 tackles, 32 of them solo. He
also was credited with nine
quarterback sacks, two fumble
recoveries, four caused fum-
bles and two blocked kicks.
Hall averaged 38 yards on 34
punts and had six punts over 50
yarders, including a 78-yarder
ing on the south propei^Jine of

The Jones County Unit of the American Cancer Society
will meet Tuesday. Jan. 3. at 6.30 p.m at the 66 Sirloin in
Anson Officers and board members are urged to be pre

Sheep project workday set Jan. 3 in Anson
All 4-H and FFA families with sheep projects for the 1989
Jones County Stock Show and Premium Sale are reminded '
of the shearing and workday on Jan. 3. The workday will be
at the Anson High School Vo-Ag Building. Projects need to
be. at the building between 12 noon and 6 p.m. A commer

The varsity Bulldogs and varsity and JV Lady Bulldogs
will travel to Abilene Friday night lor games with the
Cooper Cougars Tuesday night. Jan 3. the squads. wFlI
split up the the varsity and JV boys traveling to < 'lyde and
the varsity and J V girls staying home to take on ('omanche
at Bulldog Gym. District play will resume Friday. Jan 6,
when the teams travel to Anson with JV action set to begin
at 4 p.m. The teams split with Munday Tuesday night Hie
Lady Bulldogs won 53-44. but the Dogs lost 50-36; and the
JV boys won 56 28 while the JV girls lost 32 28

Businesses, governmental and financial institutions will
close Monday . Jan. 2. in observance of New Year s. The
list of closings includes: the City of Stamford (City Hall.
Public Works, Carnegie Library and Chamber of Com
merce). First National Bank. Commodore Savings. Roll-
‘ing Plains PCA, United States Post office and the Jones
County Courthouse.

Stamford grade school youngsters joined in song to present a Christmas present to the town
prior to getting out of school for the holidays. Listeners, young and old, enjoyed the yuletide
selections led by Yvonne Reves.
Groundbreaking expected by early February
Higginbotham-Bartlett taking
bids on construction of facility
Final plans for Higginboth-
am-Bartlett’s new building ma-
terials center in Stamford have
been completed and they are
now in the process of taking
bids on construction, according
to Phil West, local manager.
The center will be con-
structed on a thrqeacre tract of
land 300 feet north of Super 7 on
the Haskell highway. The land
was purchased in June 1988.
Construction will include a
12,000 square foot metal build
