tremendous amount of traffic
and people prowling up and
down our streets at all hours
of the night and day. We have
been forced to provide
security for our home, every
thing has to be locked up, they
even steal lawn chairs from
my yard. People who buy
drugs and don’t have money,
steal other's property and sell
it to buy their drugs. I’ve

would anyone hollar about the
police having a dog available
to stop the drugs in
Electra??? Since the drug dog
became available to our police
department, a considerable
amount of the activity 1 have
previously described above in
my neighborhood has come to
a halt, making me feel safer,
relieved and more secure.
They don’t have to have a
reason to check my property
or vehicles, I’d tell them to go
for it and then try to talk
them into staying around for
a visit, a few weeks would be
great!!! Also, I have observed
the officer working with his
dog, behind the police station,
on several occasions and have
never seen abuse toward the
dog, quite the opposite in fact,
they have a great relationship.
If I were dealing in drugs, I
would probably be scared,

this past Thursday,
Wichita County
Sheriff Tom C allahan and 1
hosted a TRIAD presentation
for Senior Citizens of Electra
and northwest Wichita
County. The presentation was
attended by fifty seniors from
the community. I would like to
extend my personal thanks to
the Seniors for this
outstanding turnout. From
the feedback 1 have received I
believe this program was a
huge success. Many seniors
have asked me when another .
program will be presented.
The Sheriff and I talked about
hosting another program in
the future. 1 would like to
thank the following local
merchants for their donations
for door prizes and gifts that
were given away at
Thursday’s presentation:
Electra Dairy Queen, Simple
Simon’s Pizza (Paul’s
Market), The Electra Star

Olson’s Auto Clinic, Mane
Street Salon, Shear Precision,
The Whistle Stop, B G’s

There was a time, not long ago, when folks!
would come from miles around to attend!
gatherings known as community singings, or
“sangins,” as they were better known. Those
who came caught up on news with friends and
family they might not have seen for some time
fl
while enjoying a gospel music show by talented
neighbors; but, what everyone seemed to relish
most were the sing-a-longs.
In an age when most church congregations!
were small, the chance to join in a chorus of!
hundreds was not to be missed. They made the!
old hymns thunder and Heaven seemed to come!
down to earth.
If you have ever wanted to re-live those days
or you have never experienced a “sangin” you
are in for a treat because a traditional, open air
community “sangin” is coming to Electra!
Join us at 7:30 P.M. Saturday October 17th, at
the corner of Cleveland and Wichita streets
(across from Bill’s) for an evening of singing
and praise like you haven’t heard in years.
If you would like to perform in the program,!
or if your church or civic group is interested ini
sponsoring a food or sales booth, call 855-3828. I
Admission is free, so grab your lawn chairs!
and come on out. I
