time to hospital
(editor's note -recently, the Hospital Auxiliary bought
colposcope for the hospital. Since they are continuously purchas-
ing items to benefit the hospital and its patients, we felt a little
background irformation on the organization would be nice. Faye
Kelly provided this information for us.)
Ground work was laid for the Hospital Auxiliary on April 26,
1977, and the first meeting to organize was on May 25,1977. THe
only income at that time was from donations and a gift cart which
was pushed from room to room selling needed items.
A Thrift Store was opened on April 26, 1979 and the Gift Shop
was opened int he Lobby of the Hospital in October 1979. The
Thrift Store soon outgrew the origial location, and the City of
Stamford gave the Auxiliary the building at 110 East Hamilton. It
was renovated at a cost of $20,000 adn they moved there in
September 1980.
everthing sold at the Thrift Store is donated by Stamford and other
surrounding area residents. This includes clothing, shoes, jewelry,
household item. , linens, furniture, etc. All donations are greatly
appreciated.
All money earned is used for the purchase of Hospital equipment
to benefit patients, for LVN Scholarship, and for improvements on
Auxiliary property , as needed
At the current time, the Auxiliary has 57 active Members and 57
Life members. Seventeen of the Charter Members and 11 organiz-
ing members are still active in the organization. Active members
worirat the Thrift Store, Gift Shop or the floor of the hospital. All
members work together on Auxiliary approed projects.
