and Sunday in the Alvin Sure
Bank, with 101 entries on dis-
play. Bob Luke and Dick Rem-
brandt of Houston were the
judges for the event.
Micky Calkins was the big
winner tn the portrait division,
taking first place for "Mel-
anie." second for "Earl
Shane," and honorable men-
tion for "Mr. Pu dy." Mar-
garet Moad wor third place
for "Forrest."
Landscape winners were
Michiko Latherow, •'Mill-
stream,** first; Elaine Ard,
"Sandstorm," second; Micky
Calkins, "Autumn Land-
scape," third; and Alberta
McCown. ' ’ Unknown Paths * *
and "Padre Island," honor-
able mentions.
In the seascape division,
VaJa Frueti won first place
for ''Storm"; Michiko Lathe-
row took second for "Sunrise-
Sunset"; and Clara Mae Chau-
vin won third place for
"Shrimp Boats at Sunrise."
Stella Moon received an hon-
orable mention for "The
Beach House."

any book returned to the
Friendswood Public Library
on Thursday, February 29,
1968.
This once only fine free day
is because of a new policy for
the Galveston County Library
System. First and second ov-
erdue notices will no longer
be sent.
When a book becomes seven
weeks overdue, a bill for the
fine (5tf per day the library
is open) and the cost of the
book will be mailed. The fine
and the book, or, the fine and
the replacement cost of the
book will then be collected.
This policy will become ef-
fective February 29, 1968.

Shown here is "Ernie” Harpole, wife of Joe D. Harpole of
2124 N. Park Avenue in Pearland, with her painting "The Old
Fiddle ” which was the first-place winner in the Alvin Art
League Show held Feb. 17 and 18 at the Alvin State Bank. Ernie
left the show with five ribbons in still life painting. Not only
did sht win the best in the show, but the best in still life, sec-
ond and third in still life, and honorable mention in still life.
She took eight paintings to the show, and four of them won
ribbons. Something to be proud of, I rnie!
