We are writing this letter in
favor of the DeLeon ISD bond
election slated for May 12, 2007.
We did not take this decision light-
ly. This is a decision that affects
our future, specifically our chil-
dren, but also the overall potential
growth of our community. It is not
a decision that was made on a
whim, but after months of fact
finding and deliberation. We are at
a unique time when the state is
offering to fund a substantial por-
tion of the project. This funding
may not last forever so the time to
act is now. We encourage the citi-
zens of DeLeon Independent
School District to become
informed, exercise your right and
vote. In doing so, we hope that
you vote Yes for our future.
Sincerely,
Brandon S. Gilmore, DO -

Letter to the

We are proud graduates of
DeLeon High School, and we
reinember well the pnde that our
community felt when our present
high school opened in 1952. The
wear of more than 50 years and the
current standards for today's
schools have led the school board
to consider a bond issue for new
high school construction and reno-
vation for the middle and elemen-
tary schools.
We are among those in the
community on fixed incomes, but
we want to support the children of
our community in every way we
can. We feel that the students of
DeLeon deserve a school that they
can point to with pride...one that
meets current standards that are set
by the state.
A new high school is not a
frivolous project. There are real
needs that need to be addressed.
This year the state of Texas has
money to aid schools with con-
struction costs. The reduction of
property taxes in Texas means that
we would not have to raise taxes to
get the needed money. Now
seems to be the opportune time to
address our schools’ needs.
We think of the wonderful
schools that our community pro-
vided for us more than 50 years
ago. Surely we can do as well.
Please join us in voting for the
school bond issue on May 12.
Sincerely,
Daylon and Jolene Whitehurst

athletes deserve at least one men-
tion per sport season. I think the

every week. I also feel like there are scheduled. When you vote

I would like to go on record
supporting the bond issue in
DeLeon and make some observa-
tions as to why it is important.
As a former teacher and
school administrator 1 worked in
some of the worst facilities imag-
inable and in brand new schools.
It was always my desire to work
in a clean, healthy, environment
that made the best use of what is
known about how teachers teach,
how students learn, how kids
behave, and how the community
may be involved.
During my career, 1 worked
in a variety of schools. It was my
personal belief that students and
teachers in a newer, cleaner, safe
school performed at higher lev-
els than those in run down, unsafe,
decaying schools. You may not

Some may argue that new
brick and mortar does not make
much difference.
