GROWERS ASSOC.
TO EXPAND
TWO YEAR OLD ASSOCIATION PLANS EXPANSION.
Two years ago the vegetable growers in the Dell Valley
foresaw the need of a growers association, and on Sept.
4 1959, an association was organized.
The purpose of the association is to encourage buyers to
to come to the valley, and to help expand the growing of
more vegetables in the Dell City area.
Officers in the incorporated association are; George Me
Connell, pres., Jamas Pritchett, Secry., and lendol Barker
treasure.
The large 60 x 100 vegetable packing plant.which was built
by the association and cost 122,000 is leased to the Stepp
and Lindquist Tomato Company, for three months during the
vegetable season, is being paid for by rental fee and by
the sale of stock in the association to the farmers in the
Dell Valley.
The dock high building, now in operation will soon be a
beehive of activity. When in full running capacity, the co-
pany will be packing about 5,000 sixty pound boxes of tom-
atoes daily. The plant expects to be in full operation by
September 15.
Within the coming year the Association expects to double
the size of the building to facilitate the increase of veg-
packing, pres. Geo McConnell stated today.
Sinoo the association was formed, and the building was
>rected, several canning companies have been interested in
puttintg in a cannery for the Dell Vally area. One company
in particular have made contact with farmers to contract
them with enough vegetables to keep operations up during
the canning seasons.
Such a cannery here, at this time would find it profitable
for themselves as well as the grower. Ripe tomatoes that
would not do for shipping could be utilized for the canning
