tary school and a perceived lack of
playground teacher supervision was
raised. Walker staled that be is con-
cerned with some of the playground
equipment as well and that some
changes will soon be made there as
well. He would discuss the play-
ground supervision with Mr. Gibbs,
the Elementary School Principal.
Regarding troubled younger stu-
dents, Mr. Walker noted that he and
Mrs. Priddy were working on trying
to hire at least a pert time Middle
School counselor for the coming
school year. Mrs. Priddy discussed
bow that teachers had a good oppor-
tunity to work closely with students
during the zero period and could flag
problem children if noted. Mr. Willis
stressed how an effort was made by
teachers to spot troubled students
and then emphasized bow that stu-
dent participation in extra curricular
activities was very beneficial in spot-
ting problems that might never show
up in classroom situations.
Rev. Wes Howard was asked to
discuss the Methodist Church’s ef-
forts to develop a ministry program
for latchkey children. Although plans
are not yet complete, they hope to
have something developed in time
for the coming school year in Sep-
tember. This would be a voluntary
participation program.
Concerns were raised regarding
the school system having only one
school nurse to cover student popu-
lations on both ends of the town. Mr.
Walker replied that getting some
nursing help was another high prior-
ity item and then outlined various
alternative qualifications that might
be acceptable. A suggestion was
made from the audience that
interideal governmental agreements
could be made with other school
systems or governmental units to
share certain facilities or personnel,
to which Mr. Walker responded that
it sounded like an idea worthy of
serious consideration. Another au- -
lienee member later remarked that ■
many school districts in the area do
not have a single school nurse.
Concerns were expresses over
school prayer. Assurances were of-
fered by Mr. Willis that school prayer
was not outlawed completely, only
the mandatory student participation
in school prayers or prayers that in-
terfered with classroom work.
Prayers before school, during lunch
and at extracurricular events are al-
lowed and encouraged. He added

end in mind. Later in the meeting a pate in silent prayers and meditation.
There were many positive com-
ments made about our teachers and
that parents had a serious and too
often unmet responsibility for proper
raising of their children. The need
for more church attendance and moral
training for children was often men-
tioned.
Mrs. Priddy told how that teach-
ers and school administrators fre-
quently attended meeting with their
counterparts in other school systems
to share ideas in the search for better
solutions to common problems.
