set a stage for our conversation, as
both of us could relate to what the
other was trying to say.
The gist of our conversation was
our belief in God, thankful that we
were raised in Christian homes which
gives us the knowledge of the power
and the peace that can only come
from our heavenly Father.
Abo, we agreed that life has been
very good to us and we can see the
fruits of our labor through our kids,
who are contributing to society, pro-
fessionally, honorably and with re-
spect-nice kids, if you will! Charlie
Morgan, who now is Dr. Morgan and
a dentist in Plano, is the son of Jackie
and his wife Diane.
Jackie and Diane will not be in De

Other items addressed at the meet-
ing were:
Gary McKay, City Engineer, dis-
cussed the overhead waler storage
. tank and main waterline in the south-
ern part of De Leon as a project for a
grant application. To be treated as a
new project, the plans and cost esti-
mates will be drawn up and presented
to council later.
A representative met with the
council, reviewing requirements for
grant applications to the Texas Com-
munity Development Program. In
order to be eligible to apply for a
grant, the current grant for the waste-
water treatment plant improvements
. must be completed and all closeout
requirements met. A Local Income
Survey will be required as part of the
application for grant funds, and the
maximum amount for any grant
through the TCDP is $250,000. The
City plans to apply for the grant to
add additional overhead water stor-
age.
Police Chief Wayne Parsons ex-
plained the Texas H.E. A.T. Program
- Help End Auto Theft, and the Po-
lice Department has the decals for
sale for anyone who wishes to par-
ticipate.
Parsons also reported that be had
met with the Sheriff’s Department in
regard to the Peach and Melon Festi-
val and that security would be pro-
vided at no charge.
The council approved $12,000.00
for renovation of the water depart-
ment office, which would include
gutting the entire office, paneling and
painting the walls, install a new ceil-
ing, new lighting, air conditioning
vents, rewiring the office, and fully
carpeted. Modular office furniture
and partitions would be installed, in-
cluding office space for the City Co-
ordinator.
The city fire marshal reported four
fire calls in June but none in the city.
A report was given that $450 was
made at the Senior Citizens* Center
benefit dance.
The city secretary was asked about
the “cash on deposit” for the cem-
etery fond and she replied that this
was one-half of the sale of cemetery
lots and donations to the cemetery.

For whatever reasons, a growing
number of people are enjoying bicy-

sport, exercise, or pleasure makes no

the competitors may ride 750 to 1,000
