W T. McKissik ha
pletcd leveling 187 acres of
riceland on his farm three
miles northeast of Alvin. He
did a very good job with his
own equipment.
Mr. McKissick has his rice-
land divided into fileds >f uni-
form size. This saves time and
labor in watering and gaining
and makes it easier tc carry
on a conservation rota- ion of
grass and clovers with nee.
McKissik has graded roads
constructed along his drainage
ditches; the roads make it pos-
sible to travel to all pirts of
the farm at all times.
B G S C D
Fred Bieii planted 400 acres
of riceland ;n Tall Fescue grass
October, 1955, on his farm four
miles north of Anglet .n on
Highway 35. The gras j urviv-
ed the long drouth of the past
summer and early fall. Since
the November and December
rains, the Fescue has made
good growth and is providing
a lot of excellent quality graz-
ing for the Bieri Black Angus
herd.
Mr Bieri’s con servation
plan includes the grow ng of
grass and clover in foui year
rotation with rice to cor dition
and improve his soil and to
provide more and higher qual-
ity forage for his cattle
