Going To Meet
Five women from Alvin are
among the more than a thou-
sand invited to attend the Tex-
as Women’s Forum on Water
at Mary Hardin-Baylor col-
lege Feb. 9. The one-day meet-
ing will include two day-
time panels and a dinner meet-
ing.
The forum will be sponsor-
ed by Mary Hardin-Baylor col-
lege and the Brazos River
Authority jointly to explore
the present and potential water
shortage. Water experts of the
state will explain the water
problem in terms of family
life and relate possib’e solu-
tions for it in terms of what
the state and its agencies must
do.
Alvin women who have been
invited to attend are Mrs.
March 11. in Angleton at the
First Methodist Church. Com-
mittee members in charge of
arrangements are Judge G. C.
Hardman of Freeport, Lee
Hearn of Angleton and M. R.
Anderson of West Columbia.

the University of Houston, has
been selected as one of 10 girls
to be featured in the Vanity
Fair section of the university’s
yearbook, the Houstonian, as
the school’s most beautiful co-
eds.
Judges will pick the school’s
beauty queen. “Miss Houston-
ian”, by the time of the jun-
ior-senior prom in May.
The Elementary P-TA met
last week in the high school
assembly room and the guest
speaker fcr the propram was
Dr. Alexander Frazier, a
member of the curriculum de-
partment of the Houston Pub-
lic Schools.
His topic was “Edu* alion as
an Investment”.
At ‘ach P-TA meeting a
banner is given in the primary
school and in the elementary
school to the room having the
most parents present at the
session. Winners were Mrs.
Colda Hood’s room in the pri-
mary school. There was a tie
in the elementary school be-
tween the rooms of Miss Phyl-
lis Lipscomb and Mrs. Lucile
Eubanks.
Refreshments were
to about 40 people.

County Tuberculosis Associa-
tion met in Angleton last week,
siiid Jack Harrison of Alvin,
president.
Members of a Nominating
Committee were appointed
and include Mis5 Frieda Blunt-
er of Alvin, chairman. That
group will nominate officers
and directors for the 1957-58
term of office and will select
a delegate to the State Con-
vention at Austin
Plans were made for the an-
n ual membership banquet
which will be held Monday,
George Pennock, who has.
been drainage commissioner in
District 3 for several terms, |
retired Jan. 1 and was honored
with a buffet dinner at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. R. E.
Stricklin.
The table was laid with a
lace cloth and an arrangement
of gold and lavendar chrysan-
themums was used as a cente r-
piece and at other v antagc
points in the home.
Mr. Pennock was presented
a rod and reel by Mr. Strick-
lin, superintendent of the
drainage district, on behalf of1
the three commissioners and
the superintendent. Mrs Pen-
nock received a gift of a shawl.
