Merz, is not seeking re-election, j
Ikjually well known are the
four newcomers in ^he race. All
of them have lived in Alvin for I
a nuir ber of years. Mr Dyche I
came here in 1942 and is asso-
ciated with Briscoe Irrigation Co.
He is the father of two daughters
one who is now attending Texas j
University at Aust»n. Mr. Mor- ,
gan who moved to Alvin in 1949
to establish a car dealership, has j
tnree children in school here. Mr
Keithley of the Christianson-
Ke ithley Implement Co. has been
a resident since 1948. One of his
two children is now in school.
Mrs Briner, who moved here in
1947, has two children in school.
CITY ELECTION
Only one race in the city elec-
tion is contested this year. Three
canaidates have filed for the City i
Council. Henry Jordan, incum- •
bent, is seeking re-election and
Mrs Thelma Hutchins and E. H.
Baker are also candidates. Two
vacancies cccured on the Coun- •
cil this year. Bill Gardin, the
second incumbent, is not seeking
re-election.
Other candidates in the elec-1
tion are: Mayor L. A. Pugh, City
Marshal Ernest Haf ‘rnick, City!
Secretary C. P. Srickland, City
Treasurer S. C. Jones and Corpor- '
ate Judge B. C. DeWitt.
