Tm o Women Are
Killed In Wrecks
During Past Week
Two Brazoria County women
were dead this week as the re-
sults of car accidents on Hous-
ton Highway 35. They were
Mrs. Herb Williams, 51, of Pear-
land and Mrs. Effie Chaffin, 49,
of Alvin. Both died Monday
night. Mrs. Williams di«^ in the
Galveston County Memorial Hos-
pital at Texas City from injuries
received Saturday night and Mrs.
Chaffin was killed instar tly when
she was involved in a head-on
collision.
Deputy Shirriff Q. C. Dawsen,
who, with the state highway pa-
trol investigated both accidents,
said Mrs. Chaffin wai driving
south on Highway 35, returning

thy Dell Mannahar and Carolyn
Detmore won third places in jun-
ior and senior girls divisions
Miss Petsick also coached the
third place winners in poetry
reading. Robert Renton took
that honor in the boys group and
Miss Detmore placed third in the
girls group

Frances Davis worked with spel-
lers. In the seventh and eifeHth
