Billy Joe Runnels
Billy Joe Runnels was born April 23,1954, the only child to Georgia Run-
nels. He attended J.A. Greene School and Schulenburg High School. Billy
was a member of Stevens Chapel United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed farm work which he did from an early age and continued
farm work for many years. He also worked at the Texaco Station for a num-
ber of years, and later he started his career at City Market in Schulenburg,
a job he really enjoyed. Billy was also into exercising and weight-lifting as
a hobby - he could always be found at the weight room every afternoon,
up until he became ill and was unable to continue. He really enjoyed
working with the Shorthorn football team and coaches - many people
will remember him running out on the field with the chains during the
games. Billy cherished the rewards that he received, including the Kyle
& Debi Holz Outstanding Shorthorn Fan of the Year for 2016-17 and an
appreciation award from the Lady Horns/Shorthorns Athletic Program on
May 15,1995. He also liked to hunt and collect guns.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Mae Runnels; his
guardian, Ms. Mary Runnels; aunts, Elizabeth Runnels and Frances Hous-
