ing more aggressive, going af-
ter the hitter. I would test them
more with the fastball.”
Whether it’s been consid-
ered finesse or overpowering,
Dalmolin remained a model of
consistency this past spring,
racking up double digit victory
numbers again at 10-2 with a
1.22 ERA, 71 strikeouts, three
shutouts and only 13 BB in 57.1
innings pitched.
While no-hitter number two
came against Dobie during a
commanding 13 strikeout per-
formance in Houston on March
22, though, Dalmolin’s relief
outings proved just as memo-
rable.

“I can bring the heat.”
Signing with Chattanooga
State, Dalmolin said he still
needs to increase his longev-
ity so he can pitch deeper into
games. After watching Dal-
molin make the transition to
the mound two years earlier,
though, his coach has no doubt
Dalmolin will make the transi-
tion smoothly from high school
to the collegiate level.
“I know Chattanooga State is
real excited about getting him
and they will be getting a gem,”
Banda said.

w JULY
Joe Dalmolin has spent most
of his youth baseball career
catching pitches instead of
throwing them.
Starting out as a catcher in
Alvin Little League, Dalmolin
only played behind the plate
until being switched to a middle
infielder during his freshman
year at Alvin High School.
However, it was another tran-
sition he was asked to make
two years later where Dalmolin
finally found his ultimate call-
ing - on the mound.
The right-hander
looked back since, capturing
20 of his 23 pitching decisions
for an incredible .870 winning
percentage and paving the way
for Alvin to win back-to-back
District 22-6A Championships.
“I’m pretty surprised about
the success,” Dalmolin said. “I
never thought I had the talent to
throw strikes.”
The numbers and postseason
awards delivered to Dalmolin,
who’s been clocked as high as
92 miles per hour on the radar
gun, argue otherwise.
The 6-2, 175-pound Yellow-
jacket Ace has earned both Class
6A Second Team All-State hon-
ors from the Texas High School
Baseball Coaches’ Association
and All-Greater Houston Area
First Team accolades by Texas
Prep Baseball over the last two
weeks. The latest two feats for
Dalmolin add to an already
impressive resume, which in-
cludes All-District 22-6A MVP
and two-time first teamer,
TSWA All-State 6A Honorable
Mention and two-time Houston
Area Baseball Coaches’ Asso-
ciation All-Star.
“Joe’s a harder worker and
competitor who always leaves
everything out on the field,” Al-
vin Coach George Banda said.
“He just knows how to win.”
That fact became quickly ap-
parent during his junior cam-
paign when Dalmolin posted
an impressive 10-1 mark with a
1.42 earned average, 54 strike-
outs and only 18 walks in 73
2/3 innings.
The 10th victory proved espe-
cially meaningful as Dalmolin
fired a no-hitter in the Jackets’
regular season finale at South

vey in the 11-12 girls’ 50-yard

50-yard breaststroke (46.59
seconds) and 50-yard free-
style (33.60 seconds), Tabitha

50-yard backstroke (40.90 sec-

the 13-14 boys’ 50-yard back-

Houston to clinch the league
crown.
“That one will always be spe-
cial with all the seniors and the
great (defensive) plays Caleb
Jeter and Rico Luna made,”
Dalmolin said. “I just wished it
would have come at home.”
With opposing hitters already
struggling enough at the plate
against the right-hander, they
probably wished Dalmolin
wouldn’t have made a few more
adjustments to his approach
heading into his senior year.
“I felt I was more of a finesse
pitcher during my junior year,”
he said. “I would paint the cor-
ners and go around batters. As
my senior year came around, I
started throwing harder and be-

Another 10-win season helps Dalmolin earn THSBCA All-State berth
After picking up a save at
home two days later against
Pasadena, Dalmolin entered
Alvin’s April 15th showdown
with rival Pearland during the
sixth inning and pitched out
of a bases-loaded, no-out am
with a pair of strikeouts and an
inning-ending grounder to sec-
ond baseman Nathan Collins in
an eventual 1-0 Jackets’ home
triumph.
The crucial win not only put
Alvin in sole possession of first
place in the 22-6A Standings for
good, it gave the senior hurl er
another taste of the closer’s role
as well.
“I really liked it and wouldn’t
mind being a closer in the fu-
ture,” Dalmolin admitted.
“When I go in as a starter, I’m
looking to pitch the whole game.
But when I go into close, I only
