Whatever may be said about
Messrs. Rhodes, Jameson, and
Harris, they have one quality of
which President Krueger and his
people cannot boast. They are
not bigoted like the latter. While
a Catholic could not become a
civil servant in tbc Transvaal, free
grants of land and monetary help
were given to nuns and Jesuit
Fathers by the former in Rhodesia
and Cape Colony.

charitable man and draws no pay
for his services. Besides, he sends
quantities of food and clothing to
the lepers every holiday season.
He believes that by extreme and
ceaseless care he can avoid becom-

he may thus be able to minister to
his diseased flock longer and bet-

who resign themselves to fate
among the lepers." No doubt,
this Dr. Winters is one of the
most charitable Methodists that
draw breath on the face of
the earth, and he acts wisely
for his own sake, as well as
for the sake of whole Methodism,
in not exposing himself too much
among the lepers; for, if he were
