We really appreciate Jettie who also
helped to serve and visited with all
the residents.
The residents always look forward
to the Tuesday night gospel singing.

Curly West, C. G. Morton, Gladys
Bradford, Eva Coley, Pearl Spruill,
Nettie Pittman, Bernice Farley,
Elsie Robinett and Dewey Ix)gan.

I OBITUARIES
Club met for the annual Friendship
Day at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Weaver on Wednesday, March
8. Members and their guests were
served delicious finger sandwiches,
cookies, nuts and punch from the
dining table decorated in the club’s
colors, pink and green.
After Mrs. Weaver welcomed the
guests, each member introduced her
friend. The guests were: Mmes.
Letty Moon, Mildred Hansford, Lola
Barnes, Dorothy Greenhaw, Willie
Mae Harvey, Delores Sharp, and
Dora Box. The quotation was:
“Wear a smile and have friends.
Wear a scowl and have wrinkles.
What do we live for if not to make the
world less difficult for each.”
Mrs. Jean Kirk presented a very
inspiring book review entitled, “Mr.
God” by Finn. It was a true story
Jenny and Orville Newcomb,
Georgia Welch, Bob Solomon, Bill
and Mill Swindle, and Rocky and
Minnie Anderson were here for a
good musical Thursday. Forty
residents attended and the music
and singing was enjoyed by all.
Some of the residents enjoyed
churning butter Wednesday. Jettie
Daniels brought the chum along
De Leon; one brother, J.J. Stanford
of Bisbee, Ariz.; and one half-sister,
Ida Belle Nitchkie of Waco; five
grandchildren and fifteen great-
grandchildren.
VARA M. BAILEY
Vara M. Bailey, 85, of Odessa
passed away on Sunday, March 12,
1969, at an Odessa nursing home.
Graveside services were held
Tuesday at Victor Cemetery with
Rev. David Lock officiating.
She was born February 27,1904, in
Erath County and had lived in
Odessa for 45 years. She was a
homemaker and a member of the
Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include a brother, J.T.
Bailey of Odessa, and two sisters,
Gladys Henry of Mineral Wells and
Blanche Daub of Weatherford.

Ruby Evans had a good Bible
Study class with 20 residents
present.
Kay Seckinger had 30 residents
present for Sunday School. The
Northside Baptist Church with Rev.
Rudy Owen held! the afternoon
worship service. Members Kay,
Ray, and Darla Seckinger, Wendel
Eaton, Dale Grisham, Bonnie
Adcock, Jackie and Betsy Robinett,
Rollie and Terri Coleman and Faye
Tucker attended along with 28
residents.
The Easter Bunny came to visit
and passed out eggs to all the
residents. This event was sponsored
by the Women’s Divison of the
Chamber of Commerce. Those
visiting were Johnnie Williams, Nell
Rose Mohon, Jessica and Talmage
Hodges, and Ronnie Christian.
Thursie Johnson’s visitors were
of Stephenville; nine grandchildren
and eight great-grandchildren. He
was preceded in death by a
daughter, Mary DeLayne Ripley, in
1929
WANDA MARIE HOLDRIDGE
Funeral services for Wanda Marie
Holdridge, 940 Edge Hill, Burleson,
were held at 2:00 o’clock Thursday
afternoon, March 9, in the De Leon
Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating
was Rev. Harley D. Martin, Ft.
Worth. Solos were by Brenda
Freeman and organist was
Margaret McGeehee.
Burial was in the De Leon
cemetery under the direction of De
Leon Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Troy Edward
Holt, Donnie L. Holdridge, Rick
Cozby, Jimmy Baze, Tommy Luther
and Jerry Guy.
Mrs. Holdridge died Monday,
March 6, 1989, from injuries
sustained in a car-truck accident in
Fort Worth.
Daughter of the late Leon Cozby
and Themla Chaffin Cozby, she was
born April 23, 1930, in Dublin. She
was a member of The Burleson
Assembly of God Church, and
worked as a nurse’s aide at a
nursing home in Burleson. On April
23, 1948, she married Calvin Bert
Holdridge in De Leon.
In addition to her husband,
survivors include two daughters.
Delores Pullen of Kopperl and
Brenda Freeman of Dallas; three
brothers, Harmen Eugene Cozby of
Miami, Fla., Charlie Cozby of Los
Angeles, Calif, and R. A. Underhill
of Carbon; two sisters, Doris Holt
of De Leon and Mary Katherine
Wilson of Stephenville; four
grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.
NAYLOR B. STANFORD
Naylor B. Stanford, 77, of
Stephenville, passed away Friday,
March 10, 1989, in a Stephenville
hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2:00
p.m. Monday, March 13, at
Stephenville Funeral Home with
Ralph Starling officiating assisted
by Larry Mills.
Burial was at Mission Garde . of
Memory in Stephenville, direcu I by
Stephenville Funeral Home.
Born on Barch 19, 1911, in Erath
County, he was a farmer and a
member of Graham Street Church of
Christ in Stephenville. He was a
lifelong resident of Erath County. He
was married to Lula Petty on August
17,1932, in Stephenville.
Survivors include his wife, Lula;
one son, James Marvin Stanford of

JUNE E. CAMERON
A graveside funeral service was
held in De I^eon Cemetery for June
Elvira Cameron, 65-year-old
resident of De Leon, at 2:00 p.m.
Sunday, March 12, 1969. Mr. Payne
Hattox officiated and C. L. Mohon
provided music. Burial was under
the direction of Nowlin Funeral
Home.
June Cameron died at 8:04 a.m.
Thursday, March 9, 1989 in the De
Leon Hospital. She was born in
London, England, June 17, 1923, to
Cyrl and Elvira Thomas Wallrock..,
She was an ambulance attendant in
England during World War II and
came to this country after the war.
She was a homemaker and had lived
in New York State and Houston,
Texas, before coming to De Leon six
years ago.
Survivors include two sons, Paul
Cameron of Paris and James
Cameron of Austin; four
daughters, Sheila Collin of England
Bernice George of Sargent, Texas,
Barbara Wallrock of Rochester
N.Y., Shirley Speer of Houston and
thirteen grandchildren
MITTIE IRENE JONES
Mittie Irene Jones, 78, died
Thursday, March 9, 1989, at 1:45
a.m. in Harris Methodist Hospital,
Stephenville.
Services were held Saturday,
March 11, at 2 p.m. in the First
Baptist Church in Dublin with Rev.
Joel McCoy officiating. Burial was
in New Dublin Liveoak Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was born March 6,
1911, in Erath County to C.R. and
Veda Lester Cline. She married L.C.
(Tex) Jones July 17,1934, in Dublin,
and was preceded in death by him on
April 24, 1987. Mrs. Jones was a
homemaker and a member of the
First Baptist Church, Dublin.
Survivors include four sons, Larry
Jones of El Paso, Lane Jones of
Dublin, Lonnie Jones of Slaton, and
L.H. Jones of Dublin; one daughter,
Lavona Jones of Lubbock; two
sisters, Florene Eddleman of Dover,
Tennessee, and Edith Short of De
Leon; two brothers, Johnnie Cline of
Stephenville and E. L. Cline of
Benbrook; 15 grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers for Mrs. Jones were
her nephews.

Funeral for A.J. Bowman, 73, of
Mixon was at 2 p.m. Sunday, March
5, 1989, in the Thompson Funeral
Home Chapel in Jacksonville, with
the Rev. John Cole and the Rev.
Jerry Hawbaker officiating.
Burial was in Mixon Cemetery.
Mr. Bowman died Friday, March
3, in a Tyler hospital following a
short illness.
A native of De Leon, he had lived
at Mixon for 15 years, having
formerly lived at Fort Worth. He
was a retired mechanic, a veteran of
the U. S. Army in World War II and a
member of First Baptist Church at
Mixon.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Modene Bowman of Mixon; one
daughter, Mrs. Zeta Ray Grant of
Fort Worth; one stepson, Roy
Jimerson of Mixon; one
stepdaughter, Mrs. Rebecca
Williams of Jacksonwille; five
sisters, Mrs. Velda Lawless of San
Antonio, Mrs. Ava Fleming of
Richardson, Mrs. Ruby Brazell and
Mrs. Roberts Collins of Midland and
Mrs. Ella Vae Shugart of De Leon;
nine grandchildren; several great-
grandchildren; and several nieces
in cooperation with

Wesley King I Dot And Stampede Band Providing Music
From March 15 to 17, 1919, war-weary servicemen of the
American Expeditionary Force met in an historic caucus
in Paris, France, and founded The American Legion. For
seventy years, The American Legion has been a respon-
sible contributor to American thought and deed — a
gigantic fraternity of service. The American Legion
today numbers more than 2.8 million — men and
women who have served our nation with honor during
one of the four wars of the Twentieth Century. On this
significant anniversary, we congratulate The American
Legion and the Legionnaires of our community and
commend their continued service for the betterment of
community, state, and nation.

JOHN AMBROSE RIPLEY
John A. Ripley, 85-year-old
resident of De Leon, died at 12:30
p.m. March 5, 1989 in the De Leon
Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2:00
p.m. Tuesday, March 7 in the
Church of Christ with Mr. Payne
Hattox and Mr. A. C. Morris
officiating. Music was provided by
members of the Church of Christ.
Burial followed in De Leon
Cemetery under the direction of
Nowlin Funeral Home. Pallbearers
were Franklin Loudermilk, Eldon
Terrill, Jim Womack, Jerry Clark,
T. A. Nowlin and Gail Graham.
John Ripley was born in Duffau,
Texas, on February 20,1904, to John
H. and Ida Marrs Ripley. He was
first married to Nevada Scott in
1923. After her death in 1929, he was
married in Lingleville on
October 1, 1933 to Alma Maurine
Hicks. She passed away on March 3,
1973. He came to De Leon 39 years
ago from Morgan Mill. He was a
farmer and had worked as a
custodian for the U.S. Post Office
and Texas Electric. He was a
member of the De Leon Church of
Christ.
Survivors include, two sons, J.S.
Ripley of Gorman, Joe Dean Ripley
of De Leon; a daughter, Dorothea
S'kes'tf Waxachie; three sisters,
Lettye Fallin of Fort Worth, Orena
Koonsman and Connie Herring both
