The object of giving the above list,
with grades taught, is to advise boys
and girls livihg in the communities
above, who have advanced beyond the
grade taught in their home school,
th^ they MUST TRANSFER ,tP
another district if they receive free
school privileges the coming year. The
State will pay tuition on children in
other districts, provided you have not
attained your 18th birthday before
Soptember ftt. But the State WILL
NOT pay tuition on any pupil who
does not arrange fbr ssme-*by tr®W4
ferring before August 1.
It has not been so many years ago
since there were more than 100 sepa-
rate schools in Comanche county. The
plan of building a school house at al-
most every cross roads in the county
is gradually being abandoned. For
the coming school year the^e will be
school taught at 40 points, one of the
41 temporarily transferring to anoth-
er district.
A rural school trustee, comment-
ing on the decrease fti the number of
scholastics in his district near De^
l<«t>n some time ago, remarked io
Free Press editor that “people do no^ r
have as many children as in former
yean. Families are not so large.” In
that same district there was former-
ly a scholastic enrollment of 97. Af ~"
this time there are some 40 odd. Same
community, same district lines, same
. farms, and about the same number of
families. « —
Following herewith is a list of the
schools that will operate in the county
in 1981-32, and the grades each will
teach:

On Thursday afternoon, July 11th
at four o’clock in the social hall of
the De Leon Baptist church Miss
Roger Mae Smith and Mrs. Everett
Hansford entertained with a* miscel-
laneous shower for Miss Bernice
Inzer who became the bride of John
Wade Melton, of Houston, Tuesday
night July 14th.
The shower was a complete sur-
prise to the honoree and much merri-
' ment was had at her expense when
she found, to her confusion, that her
friends had gathered to honor her and
that it \rtts not a business meeting of
Mrs. Jeff Smith’s S. S. class.
The hall was- beautifully and tastgr.
fully decorated with ferns, pot plants,
and a profusion of cut flowers.
A very interesting and well select-
ed program was given by a few of I
De Leons most talented girls. Gena
Gentry, in her own inimitable way
sang the popular song, “Yours and
Mine,” with appropriate gestures. ■
Louise Greenwaldt gave a reading,
“That Old Sweetheart of Mine” and
two piano selections “Rustle <of
Spring” by Sinding, and “By* 'the
Waters of the Minnetonka,” by Lieu-
rance were played by Maratha Francis
Russell. Allene Weaver sang in her
rich clear voice, “Irish Love Song,1*
by Danks and “The Rosary.” Launa
^retwell, a most talented pianist
played, “March Grotesque” by Sind-
ing and “Valse BriMiante" by Man-
azucca. 4
. , TV? huge baskets of .beautiful and
useful gifts were then presented to
the bride-elect by Misses Gena Gentry,
Ruth Cook, Darlene and Betty Jean
Van Zandt. The gifts were passed
around to be viewed by some forty-
five or fifty guests. The hostesses
were assisted by Misses Gena Gentry
Ruth Cook, Darlene and Betty Jean
Van Zandt in serving a most delicious
iced punch and small cakes to the
guests. During the serving Miss
Gussie Insall played on her violin a
group of popular Jove songs, accom-
panied at the piano by Mrs. A. P.
Schmidt.
Mrs. Johnnie Burleson, nee Roselle
Smith, hand painted a charming and
dever brides book which was presid-
ed over by Mr®. Everett Hansford.
,, Miss Bernice was given a shower
in Kenedy, where she taught school
last year, and.received many beauti-
ful gifts from her friends there. All

Mrs. Bay is a daughter of Mr. Tt»m

For her marriage, she wore a becom-

covets their presence. Any one desir-

very notieable increase in Sunday

The church was filled to its capa-

beautiful wedding, and hear the im-

Melton, pastor of 7th and James

father of the groom, Mr. W»de Mel-

nice Inzer, of our very choicest young
ladies. This church will never out-
grow the good wave of influence she
has, set in motion. Her unselfish, con-
secrated, Christian life, and her loyal-
ty and fidelity to her church are
worthy of imulktion by the young as
well as the olde\members. De Leon’s
loss is the gain of" a very fortunate
young man who, we are sure, is
worthy of her. We wish for them
much happiness and success in life.
