District No. 1 includes the

March 13 is an important date to
remember as it is the Primary
Election day.
This is a time that we can literally
change the way government is going
by simply casting a vote for the
candidates we feel can and will
represent us to the best of their
ability at all times.
A tip of the hat goes to all the
candidates for taking the time to
campaign for the office of their
choice. It has to be tough to
campaign day after day with so little
time to sell yourself and the issues
that are so important to you.
Win, lose, or draw, government
will have to be better in the future
than in the past, due to each
candidate having become so
involved in this election.

His election to the
came
during the association’s recent
annual meeting in Nashville,
Tennessee.
Dr. Donald E. Messer, president
of Biff School of Theology, Denver,
challenged the group to move from a
“dysfunctional theology” of
maintaining internal structures and
membership to one of ministries of
service in a troubled world.
Defining the “gathered" as the
church and the “scattered" as the
world to which churchpersons are
called to serve, Messer said
“sometimes the focus on the
gathered is so strong that we miss
the scattered.”
As treasurer of NAACLL, Smith
will sit on the executive committee
and participate in the planning and
decision-making process of the
association. He will be the only
member on the executive committee
from the South Central Jurisdiction
of the United Methodist Church.
As lay leader of the Annual
Conference, Smith is responsible for
fostering and building lay
participation in the ministry and
decision-making process of the
Annual Conference. He plays many
leadership roles in United
Methodism at the local church,
district, conference, Jurisdictional,

Election Day
Today, Lord,
I will stand up to be counted
Among those millions
Americans
Who have learned that
Liberty is responsibility.
Today, Lord,
Neither state of weather
Nor frame of mind
Will keep me from my polling
place,
For I have seen too often
How bad officials are placed in
charge
By good men and women
Who do not vote.
Today, Lord,
I will stand up to be counted,
Intelligence at work,
Passion at rest.
And when this day is done, Lord,
Let me show respect for the losers
As I pray the winners
Into Your care.

The week of March 11-17 has been
designated Texas Severe Weather
Awareness Week by Governor
Clements.
At least five people in the state lost
their lives in 1989 because of weather
related incidents and hundreds more
had their lives changed
dramatically when their homes
were damaged or destroyed.
Schools, hospitals, businesses, and
individuals are encouraged to
conduct and participate in tornado
drills during this period. At 10:00
a.m. March 14, there will be a
special test of the North Texas
NOAA Weather Radio alarm
system. At that time, a special
tornado drill message will be
broadcast.
Should the weather be threatening
at that time, the drill will be
postponed until the following day.
