Editor’* Note: The Sabanna Creek
Philosopher on hi* Johnson Grass
Farm on Route 2 discusses
European travel this week, in his
own peculiar way.
Dear Editor:
According to an article I read last
night, Americans are setting some
sort of record this summer for
traveling to Europe.
The article said this is partly due
to the fact the dollor is worth so
much more than foreign currency
that American travelers are saving
money by going now.
I guess so, but anybody who thinks
he can save money by spending it
probably ought to run for Congress.
Travelers come back enthusiastic
about what they saw in Europe, like
ancient castles, houses with
thatched roofs, scenic views, native
customs, tombstones of famous
people, boat rides down celebrated
rivers, museums, post cards, etc.
I haven’t seen any figures on how
many Europeans are traveling to
the United States this year, but I’ve
always had a theory there ought to
be a balance of tourism, with as
many of them coming over there to
look at us as us going over there to
look at them.

out I'va got some land out here that’*
just as old as any they’ve got over
there. I get a certain satisfaction out
of knowing that while tourists are
tramping over ancient land over
there, I can step outside my front
door and walk on land that was built
the same theirs wa* Some people
call this benighted.
