Being Sought
Although the newly autho-
rized Middle Trinity Groundwa-
ter Conservation District has yet
to hold its first official meeting,
efforts are already underway to
obtain an official determination
of its taxing authority.
Comanche County Director
George Bingham and State Rep-
resentative Sid Miller have re-
quested the Texas Secretary of
State’s office for a ruling on how
the newly created District's tax-
ing authority, if any, will work.
The problem was created by
the enabling legislation, which
split into two voter questions, the
creation of the district and the
authorization for collection of ad
valorem property taxes. In most
cases, similar district proposals
contain only a single, combina-
tion creation/authorization ques-
tion for voters to decide.
The Middle Trinity GCD was
authorized by voters in both Co-
manche and Erath Counties. The
ad valorem taxing authority, how-
ever, was approved in Erath
County but rejected by Comanche
County voters.
District organizers want to
find out if the split decision on
taxing authority prevents the en-
tire district from collecting prop-
erty (axes, allows for only prop-
erty taxes in Erath County, or
considers the aggregate vote in
the two county district in deter-
mining the taxing authority. In
the two county totals, taxing au-
thority was approved, since it

Not many of us are quite sure
what we want to do after gradua-
tion. The great philosopher,
Henry James, once wrote his son
a letter advising him. He said,
“There are three things everyone
must remeber to be a success in
life: number one, be kind, num-
ber two, be kind, number three,
be kind.”
As graduates, we want to con-
tinue to weave our blankets of
life. The teachers here have wo-
ven the golden thread through us,
but we must continue the tapestry
that will become our lives.
The challenge before us is to
make the most of ourselves, for
that is all there is of us. The
essential element in reaching this

Mr. Green’s great plays. Build-
ing props, learning lines, making
costumes and rehearsing was our
idea of hard work. After our
superb performance, we were
awarded with our first diplomas.
Then we developed into ig-
norant sixth graders. Totally dif-
ferent surroundings with more
classes, different teachers, and
hard work made us think we
would not survive junior high.
T ardiness, detention, and eighth
graders were our biggest fears.
School dances, first kisses, and
making new friends were the high-
lights of sixth grade.
As we moved on as sophisti-
cated junior high kids, we learned
what it was like to be a team. We
